It is likely that the ignitor needs to be replaced. If the range does not sense the proper amount of resistance in the ignitor, it will not turn on the gas valve for the lower burner. If the broiler is still working, it would further this thinking, as it has a separate ignitor.

I assume you mean the oven. The oven igniter is probably bad if it is a gas model.

Whatdoes an oven igniter do as opposed to the oven bake igniter?

Initors work with oven safety valves and open gas safety valves when the amp draw changes as the ignitor heats up. Ig niters light the flame and then become a thermocouple and send back confirmation of ignition to the central control. The model above uses a glow bar ignitor which is wired in series with the oven control and safety valve. The most common mistake when diagnosing the ignitor is working is you see it glowing. But that does not mean it is strong enough to open the bi-metal inside the gas safety valve which requires a minimum of 3.5 amps to bend the bi-metal so it will release gas to the burner. -PawPaw.

My stove lights very slow with a low flame. Should the igniter stay on after it lights oven

Yes the ignitor stays on even after the burner is lit. The ignitor is wired in series with the oven valve. It sounds like the oven valve isn't opening all the way. A new ignitor should solve this problem. The old igniter builds up resistance and doesn't let the correct voltage through to the oven valve for it to open properly.

Kitchenaid gas range model# ykgsc308lso oven

If it takes more than 2 minutes to light then that ignitor is weak. It should be very bright. It has to draw 3.5 amps to open the valve. The valve is good because the ignitor is working the oven control is good, all it can be is a weak ignitor. It should draw 3.5 amps or have measure 37 ohms.

Bake oven does not light. Igniter glows for many minutes but no gas to oven. When I wrapped gas valve with hammer it lights!! When oven burner goes out when reached desired temp, it will not relight...

The igniter needs to draw between 3.6 and 4 amps to open the gas valve even thogh it is glowing the resistance may not be the same . Check the amperage and then replace igniter

Gas Range Oven not lighting

In many cases, even if the igniter is glowing, the resistance may not be low enough to turn on the gas valve. The igniter controls the gas valve. The gas valve could have failed but is extremely rare. The igniter has probably gone bad. ($50.00 to $90.00 for igniter). The igniter is in series with the gas valve. As the igniter heats up, the resistance decreases to a level where the valve will turn on the gas.

Oven burner delays too much to light

Zanes, Your oven igniter is getting weak. The glowing bar next to the manifold must draw between 2.7 and 3.3 amps before the safety valve will acknowledge that it's actually hot enough to ignite gas and open up. Your igniter is most likely right at ~2.5 amps and the valve is "wanting" to open, but won't without some persuasion (hammer anyone?). The part number for your igniter is 9753108 and is available. Your local appliance parts house may not carry it, but there is a substitute that they WILL carry. Its' part number is WB2x9998. It's a universal flat igniter. Unplug the oven before repairing it, OK?
