Dont get vidio at all see drives light up and can

Being able to open a cd or dvd drive only requires power to be going to that unit. The following assumes your monitor is working but is just not displaying anything.

What you are describing sounds like you are having a hardware or BIOS issue or some sort. This doesn't necessarily mean a component fried or what not, it can just be a misconfiguration.

The fun part is tracking down what it might be, trial and error or educated guesses is all you have.

If you have added anything new to your computer recently, I would look there first. Recent means in the last few days.

Next I would unhook anything connected externally to the computer...minus your monitor. Yes this even means your mouse and keyboard. If you are on a wired network/internet, also disconnect that from your computer. After everything is disconnected, try booting the computer up. If you now see your monitor displaying, then one of the components you removed is the cause of your problem. Plug them in one by one and find which one causes your problem to come back.

I forgot to mention a BIOS reset, remove the BIOS battery for a few seconds while your computer is unplugged from the wall. The battery looks like a bigger watch battery, thin, circle with about a half inch diameter. It will be on your motherboard.

If none of the above worked, then you are going to need to open your computer case up and start looking inside. Also at this point, having another working computer around will help tremendously. First thing I would do is make sure ALL connections inside computer are nice and snug. So check all your cables and hardware that plugs into motherboard. After done, try booting up again.

Now you need to remove any add-on cards from your computer. Things like ethernet card, wireless card or whatever else you might have installed. Leave the video card installed (if you are not using onbaord/integrated video). Try booting up again.

If still not working, then this is the time I would start swapping components between computers. First I would try the monitor on a different computer and then I would try the video card in another computer. Next thing I would check is the RAM, this can be tricky if the working computer you have around does not accept that type of RAM. But you could always buy RAM and take it back after you are done with it, sometimes having to pay a small restocking fee. If you have more than one stick of RAM, remove the others and try booting with a single stick installed. Then if still no boot, install one of the other sticks instead...but keeping it at a single stick installed. I would not bother trying the hard drives in another computer, have never seen a faulty hard drive with the correct jumper settings stop a computer from displaying anything on the monitor. But if you feel the need to test them, one less possibility.

There is also the odd chance your PSU (Power Supply Unit) is not acting like it should be. You can either do a swap from a working computer, buy a new one and take it back or research on the net how to test one while it is not in a computer.

If none of this changed anything, then I would start looking at the motherboard or processor as the culprit. At this point I just replace the motherboard and try again, then I do the same with the processor if the mobo swap did nothing.

I have never once seen a computer not work after this process for the problem you are describing.
