Question about Olympus DS-2 Digital Voice Recorder

Recorder says "PLEASE DOWNLOAD FILES," but there are no files to download

Hey guys. I have a D-2, which has worked fine for almost a year. But this week, after taking some files from it and storing them on my MacBook Pro, when I removed the device from the computer, the recorder would not do anything. It keeps telling me to "Please download files." No matter what button I push, the recorder keeps telling me "Memory Full." I can't reformat or do anything else. Much less erase files. Nothing. I have reconnected the device to my MacBook, and there are NO files showing up on the recorder. None.
I took the batteries out -- then put them back in after 30 minutes. The recorder asked me to reset date and time, but then it immediately gave me the "Memory full" message again, and now it just keeps flashing alternating "Memory Full" and "Please Download Files" messages.

Re: Recorder says "PLEASE DOWNLOAD FILES," but there are...

The DS-2 has a format option in the menu under submenu. After you choose start you will see a progress bar and it should return to full record time. Use on a MAC seems to cause the reduced record time more often than on a PC.

Re: Recorder says "PLEASE DOWNLOAD FILES," but there are...

I had the exact same problems as listed above. The 'solution' from dstrd sweet doesn't work because as mentioned, no buttons on the recorder work. The buttons do nothing. So, to fix this problem on my iMac I went to applications, utilities, then ran "Disk Utility". Select the sound recorder disk, while it is plugged into your computer. Then go to the Erase tab and choose the option to erase or delete the contents of the sound recorder. This deletes the files that you couldn't otherwise delete. When I disconnected the device and tried to restart it, it was giving me choice to reformat the sound recorder. I don't know if it is required but I did choose yes, to do so. And afterwards the device was back to normal, with all the recordings gone and a full disk to work with. I'm surprised I couldn't google this information anywhere and had to come up with it myself.

you can use card recovery software that helped me before
1. Do not save any new file to memory card.
2. Connect your card to computer. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer.
3. Download recovery software, recommended one is this photo recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked)
4. Install and open the data recovery program, select your memory drive, and click 'Next' button to start scanning process which will find your deleted files.

Ws 200s deleted files but still full

I had the same problem. I downloaded the instruction pamphlet at and reformatted the recorder. It seems to work fine now.

Formatting the Recorder (FORMAT)
If you format the recorder, all function settings will return to their defaults.
All files stored in the recorder will be deleted.
If you have important files that you want to save, connect the recorder to a computer and
transfer those files from the recorder to the computer before formatting the device.
1 Press the MENU button.
2 Press the FF or REW button to choose “FORMAT”.
3 When the PLAY button is pressed, “nO” is displayed.
4 Press FF or REW to select “yES”, and press the
PLAY button.
After “ARE yOU SURE” is displayed, “nO” will be displayed.
5 Press FF or REW to select “yES”, and press the
PLAY button.
“DONE” displays when formatting ends.
s It may take up to several tens of seconds to finish the initialization. Do not remove the battery or detach
the battery compartment from the recorder during that time. Otherwise data may be damaged.
s Never format the recorder from a PC.
s When the recorder is formatted, all the stored data, including locked files, are erased.

Press menu button on the handset.Go to sub menu. Page 37 of online handbook suggests you can lock and unlock from this but I used the format icon on the submenu to reformat the card. Seems to be working fine now.

Hi Guys,
I have the same corrupted file, but you can recover it by using the GoldWave software. Just type"Goldwave" in google, follow the link and download the software, install it. From that software open the corrupted file, and then save it as a new copy. ( It will fix the problem when opening the file, where you can see it). They try to play the new saved file, shld be fine.
all the best.
