Hi - I am not having a problem with my GPS, however I do have a question. Every so often, the GPS makes a MOO sound and shows a symbol in the left top side of the screen that looks kind of like an electrical tower. It also counts down to a specific location. It has done this in the middle of NYC, as well as country roads. Please please tell me what it is. It's driving me crazy!

You need to go into your sounds program on the tom tom and change the sounds, the other problem is sometimes in the city your signal is either weak or not at all, you need to checkl your your manual or go to tom tom home and read the manual.

My sat nav is not showing me in the correct location - what should I do

Hi Diane, from the symbol you described it sounds like you are not receiving the satellite signal to your sat nav! The weak satellite signal could be due to the location you are in and also within the vehicle, some vehicles reduce satellite signals and you have to fix an external aerial to improve the signal! Have you tried using it with the door/ window open to see if that helps the signal?

Show charging symbols

Your question was posted under the Nuvi 680 GPS, so I am assuming this is the model that you have.

On the main screen, you will see a green battery status indicator in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The battery is divided into 4 parts. Each part represents 1/4 power. So if you have one green bar, that indicates that the battery has 1/4 of power left. If there are 3 bars, that indicates that there is 3/4 power left.

When the unit is charging, you will see a yellow lightning bolt appear over the green battery status icon.

When the lightning bolt is not there, this means the unit is running off of the battery.

When leaving the unit to charge, press and hold the power button until you see that the screen says Charging Battery. A few seconds later, the screen will go blank to save energy.

Pressing the screen again later will either say Charging Battery or Battery Charge Complete.

My Garmin is displaying symbols in either chinese or japanese and I can't figure out how to change it back to an English mode with American maps.

  1. Press TOOLS (The spanner symbol on the bottom left of the screen that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
  2. Press SETTINGS (The spanner symbol) or if your model doesn't have a SETTINGS icon press LOCALE (The blue symbol)
  3. Press LANGUAGE (The lips symbol)
You will see a page with 3 items on it. VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
The voice symbol will have the speaker's name beside it. If the voice is in English it will show the name in English. If not press each icon in turn and change the voice to an English speaking voice.

This will leave only 2. Press each one in turn and change them to American English.

Tomtom One 130 shows pic of Tomtom, flashing x, pie chart icon on left after using Tomtom Home.

TomTom Home must have corrupted the TomTom's operating system. That is what that symbol means. Contact TomTom support and tell them what model you have and they will walk you through getting the correct version installed.
