SOURCE: Downloading from Itunes

Your Itunes library may consist of MP4 (Itunes format) files, WAV files, and MP3 files. If you're attempting to transfer MP4 files to your MP3 player, then no it will not work. You'll need to convert them to MP3 format first.

Here's the really bad news...the only way to convert an ITunes MP4 song is to first burn it to a CD. Then you need software to pull the song from the burned CD back into your computer in whatever format you choose. Nero is an example of software that will accomplish this. I use rewritable CD's to do this so you don't waste a bunch of disks.

This was by design from your friends at Apple.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: IPOD music list gray in ITUNES

This seems to be a common problem among certain users. Here is an explanation of why it occurs as well as a solution:

The songs displayed on the iPod "playlist" is merely a list, not a shortcut to the file. Basically, it is to show you what is on your iPod, and you cannot move the songs because you aren't manually syncing your iPod.

The solution to this is simple, as much of a pain as it might be: on the iPod screen, where the iPod's name is displayed as well as firmware version etc. there should be a box in the lower right hand corner that says "sync automatically". Once unchecked, you will be able to play and remove songs one by one, instead of iTunes combining them into a text list.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: i downgraded itunes from 8.0

You can fix this by updateing. Apple puts blocks in place to cause the older versions to stop working. They do this because people learn how to unlock the music they buy on itunes so Apple has to create new locks. To avoid this, never update. They claim to be fixing bugs but they are really making it difficult to remove the locks. They are also updating itunes for the itouch and iphone.
If this didn't help, you can go into chat on Apples website and they will tell you more about the error code being thrown. Good Luck,

SOURCE: itunes won't save my library

Its really tough when you have multiple IPods going on one computer. The best bet is to take a library and add every song into the computer available. Then create a seperate playlist for your daughters songs and one for yours. Then use the playlists to add to the Ipods in the future. That is really the concept to the library in the first place.

How do I backup itunes file on external harddrive

It's a good idea to regularly back up all important files on your computer to an external source to prevent data loss. Your iTunes music, videos and other digital downloads are stored in separate files within the iTunes folder. However, if you consolidate them into a single folder, it's easier to back them up to an external hard drive.

Launch iTunes. Go to the program's Preferences menu. Click the "Advanced" tab. Check the box next to "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" and click "OK." Click "File." Select "Library" and then "Organize Library." Check the box next to "Consolidate Files" and click "OK." Close iTunes. Connect your external hard drive to your computer. Find the iTunes media folder on your computer's hard drive. Drag the folder to the icon for your external drive to copy your iTunes media.

I have more hard drive space available then I could possibly use. Is there anything useful that I could do with it?

Good for you that you have an available space in your computer. Just leave it like that for future use. Don't just download or install any software there. You will need that space someday.

The advantages of having a more hard drive space:

1. Speed.
2. You can save more files, music, pictures, etc.

I suggest not to do anything yet which you think is not important. As time passes by, there are files that will be added there as you use your computer.

Search online for a professional "data recovery service". For a significant fee, they can repair your disk-drive, just long-enough to copy all your files to a brand-new disk-drive.

Song files donn't STAY in iTunes

The songs are located on your Simpletech drive. You have to move them to your music folder and then specify where the library is in iTunes. If you do have music in your music folder, then on XP, after you have iTunes open, go to Edit -> Preferences. Click on Advanced, and then change the library location.
