Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone
My iphone froze up today, it just gave me a half lit screen and I couldn't even turn it off, nothing would work. I held the home button and power off button at the same time for several seconds and this seemed to make it worse. I did the same thing again, and it restarted the phone. Nothing lost except for 3/4 of the battery life for some strange reason. All is good, my phone is back!

I had a same problem until my 11 year old cousin helped me. He basically held the wake and the home botton together for 7 sec and lets go just before it turns off (8 sec). Be patient and repeat this for a good 7-8 times. make sure you let go before it turns off. I don't know how but it works.

My iphone locks up about once per day. You need to do a forced restore. Press and hold the home button and plug in the cable to your computer. Keep pressing hold until you see the iTunes logo and an illustration of a cable. Then follow the instructions. It can take many hours but I do end up with a flaky but working iPhone. BTW I swapped my 3G for a new one at Apple Store but had and still have the same problem. Hope for 2.0.1 soon.

When I downloaded Boss Tool my iPhone was normal, it was until I starting messing with the tool, and there was an option that said that I could move some applications into the Boss Tool.
When I did this the iPhone loaded and it seemed normal until I clicked on the calculator and a weird logo poped up and the iPhone froze completly. After I turned it off and back on an apple (the one that shows when you turn it on) with a loading symbol poped in the screen and it froze there. I have let the iPhone run out of battery and nothing happens, I have plugged it to the computer and it recognizes it but the iPhone screen stays the same.
So I want to know if anyone knows what the problem is?
P.S: My iPhone was bought unlocked and it was not bought from a cell phone company. And last, should I try downloading an unlocking program on my computer?

OMG! After hours of crying, my iPhone has restored itself!! My brother had been trying to get into it for ages (failing because he doesnt know how to unlock it) eventually he had disabled it, and angrily switched it off. I found it, and attempted to switch it back on, but this resolved in it freezing with the apple logo in the middle of the screen. I read all the solutions on here, THE BEST THING TO DO IS HOLDING DOWN THE HOME + ON/OFF BUTTON FOR A SEVERAL SECONDS, UNTIL IT RESTORES!
I was sure this wouldnt work, but it did, DO NOT LOOSE FAITH!! TRY IT NOW!! IT WILL RESTORE!! :)

Open the iPhone and disconnect the battery. Reconnect it and close it. Hold the menu button and connect the usb cable as you hold the menu button. The iphone should now go into recovery mode. If that fails it looks like you need anew logic board which in theory you can replace yourself. Here's aguide on how to disassemble an iPhone. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to have somebody else do it for you there are third party iPhone Repair Services.

My iPhone froze after I tried to start an app I had recently installed. The Apple symbol came up and that was it. I restarted it using both buttons numerous times to no avail. Also tried plugging it into the charger and to my Mac, but it didn't respond. But my last ditch effort was, for some reason, successful:
I have a TEAC Hi-Fi Table Radio SR-2, which lets you plug in an iPhone and control the music. I plugged in my frozen iPhone and pushed play on the TEAC unit and after a few moments, the crisis was over.

Download the latest iTunes to your computer and reset the iPhone. Then re-sync it.
To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.
If iPhone won't turn on, or the display freezes or doesn't respond
1. Remove Sim Card
2. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until Apple logo appears
3. Replace Sim Card
4. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until normal phone screen appears.
Also, Try this:
1.) Shut down the iPhone 3G.
2.) Start up iTunes
3.) Hold down HOME button on the iPhone 3G
4.) While keeping the HOME button depressed, plug in the Sync cable
5.) A message will pop up to ask if you want to reset.
6.) Just click YES and the reset process should start.
