You can remove the front speaker grill(if pulls off--I own one just like yours) and behind it you will find an inspection plate. Remove the plate--The part you are looking for is almost dead center near the front on a metal heat sink with fins---the location marked on the top of the board in front of it will be I601------the number on the 13 pin IC will be LA7838---a 4 dollar part.

You will need to unbolt and pull the entire chassis back and lift up so the bottom of the boards are facing the back of the set(you will need to undo several wires that are bundled up in plastic ties to get it out--) I have seen the same problem in my set and many others--usually a good idea just to replace the chip--need a little heat sink compound to put on the metal back if you replace it--solder and a good soldering iron.

This kind of repair usually takes me about 15 minutes or so.


These are very dependable sets and if you can do it yourself --very cheap to fix--if not able to do it yourself shop around your area--tell them you need the LA7838 vertical chip replaced (some will just solder it up but considering the cost of the part it is better to just replace it)


If you want to prove it is your problem--with the inspection plate off use a screwdriver (with the set on) and tap on the heat sink with the plastic or wood handle--if you see the problem come and go--you know what the trouble is-----I have seen about 100 of these sets with this problem.

Mine did the same thing and all I did was pull the board out of the bottom and it straightened out. Just a small short in it.
