Lite On LVW-5045 DVD Recorder - won't record onto disc

Hi

My liteon 5045 is about 2 years old. About 6 months ago it stopped recording onto DVD-R and then DVD+R - would still record onto any + or - DVD RW. Recently it has stopped even that - it comes up with a message saying "preparing disc" - spends 5 minutes or so doing that then says eject disc or it just freezes - occasionally it starts to record but when you to play back it freezes again. Any suggestions what might be happening here (I've heard this is a real common problem)

    my recorder will not format new dicks and sum times will not work , it is two years old and cd dive dus enying

I had this problem for the last 12 months - my father in law has just developed the same problem - he bought a DVD cleaner (£5) and it cured his. I too tried it this weekend and presto mine is reading and writing lovely again. I can't believe it turned out just to be a "dust" problem. Neither Lite-on customer services or the "manual" suggest doing this - but it has cured mine for the time being. Its worth trying for a fiver. Note: DVD cleaner and not a CD cleaner as dvd cleaner has two brushes on it as the lenses must be in different places for the DVD.

Liteon dvd recorder lvw1101 starts reading the dvd then says it preparing the disc then it ejects it
The Optical head unit is faulty. The disc is not being read by the head unit laser and so conveys a wrong message which ejects the cd.
Replace the optical head unit assembly but with the correct procedure.

Liteon DVD recorder LVW-5045 has disc inside and won't open tray
Use your knuckles to knock on top of cabinet just above disc tray door while at the same time pressing open button,99% of the time disc tray will open.The problem you have is caused by a worn out belt drive or the tray is out of alignment.The disc tray belts only cost $2,when tray is open you can see the minature belt that controls door to the right.Use twizzers to remove and replace.Belt size 1.9

Liteon 5045 problem in playing normal movie DVD's
The DVD drives are very unreliable and just get more temperamental with age. I replaced mine with a Lite-On SOHW-1213S. The DVD is too big to fit in the old ones place so it sits on top of the unit with the cable going through the slot, but it works brilliantly.

Can't get reliable recording discs
There actually is a recommended list on Lite-on website but I have used bulk-paq, ridisk and phillips without problems until it stopped reading any alltogether. I recently cleaned it with a DVD cleaner disk and its working properly again. Also on the website is a download for updated firmware which may help in your case.
