i just came to the point of break to tell everybody that acer makes the crappiest computers in the world! I'd better go for an Olivetti calculator of the 80s, rather than an acer; especially the aspire series.
Acer has not yet realized, after such a long frustrating year that vista has tried to elbow its path to the public, that acer systems simply are not compatible with vista.
coming to the drivers' issue now..
you go the the acer websites, not only global, panam, but .au, .co.uk, canada, etc, and there's heaps of crap and useless drivers you can download, no matter how much you strive to specify the exact model of your crappy acer!
you go at drivers and utilities section, and there's no way you can find the "e-recovery" utility anywhere, unless you bid for luck. you can even browse the ftp server, and you find nothing valuable. Most of the time, the acer websites don't work. they're overloaded by the desperation of myriads of people like you and i that rake every corner of the www for some lousy drivers.
like the speakers on top, i have tried and still am trying to put my orbifreakingcam to work, still with the same results of a black ugly window with no other hues.
it's worth mentioning that i have tried the drivers of dozens of aspire models other than mine, as well as several TM models with similar cam; in every occasion have i managed to successfully install them(drivers and software), but still my camera just simply and plainly won't work.
on the other hand, half of my hd has a partition with vista os, default with factory settings(there the camera works, just to let me know i am not sleepwalking and i am not trying to resuscitate a dead carcass). well, factory bollocks, cause half of these settings are simple junk, or better, just a waste of space, memory, ram, processor work, and even cooling fan spinning.
take as example the e-recovery,,, in a -say- hundred brand new acer platforms, 90 of them are junk and useless; simply irrecoverable.
buddy, i am sorry to tell you that the best way to handle an acer is to hurl it beyond the horizon and develop the harshes, most acute allergies to similar products. you'll waste other weeks and months to come to understand this.
