Question about Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD Recorder

Recording and erasing stopped working after 3 yrs.

My DMRE50 has stopped recording and all functions like erasing after 3 yrs faultless service. Still plays fine. When trying to record it comes up with a variety of messages that result in a crash and then it tries to recover. Sometimes, I have to power off the machine and use "OPEN" to turn it back on to get the disk out

Is there some way of cleaning the record heads ?

Re: recording and erasing stopped working after 3 yrs.

Try Recording and eraseing on a DVD-RAM a lot until you can get it to erase a DVD-R that it has recorded but not finalized.

Then try recording on a non-finalized DVD-R that has previous recordings but still has some room left to record. Erase a program and record another show on the same dvd.

Try this untill it will finalize a track on a non-finalized disk and repeat, make a few tracks. Then record on that disk untill it's full and finalize the disk.

Once you can get it to record on and finalize a few disks that it had previously recorded on it should be able to accept new fresh un-recorded DVD-Rs.

Yup I have the same problem with ERASE and non recording. I have tried a lense cleaner, which I thought did work initially, however now it's not having it at all.

I have taken the thing apart to have a poke around but still no joy - apart from the discovery of a few 'spare' parts!?!? lol

Still I think the problem is with the RAM disks as I have a really old disk which which I have hardly used and this will still erase and record on demand. Hope this helps...

I ended up here becase but my remote has stopped working now with the message "Remote DVD 1" appears on screen when you try to use it, but nothing happens!?!?

Panasonic DMR E55 DVD Recorder

Hi James,

When in EXT link mode the recorder is looking for a signal from the TV to start recording off the TV's timers system.

There is a EXT Link button on the remote control and pressing that will take the machine back to normal mode. The button is near the bottom of the remote.

Hope this helps

Recording & erasing problems

could be a cleaning issue or the laser is weak or out of alighnment and if you dont have a service manual and at least a 60 meg scope your gonna need to take in the unit to an authorized repair center. Good Luck
