Question about Protron PLTV-32 Television

5 Answers

I have a protron tv Model # LT32C1P1. The problem with the set is that the power light doesn't stay on and it screen doesn't light up. I have no picture and no sound. I recently hooked up my DVR cable box cables rather than the cowaxle cable to the set and start using the PIP features of the TV set.

The LED light stays on red. When I turn the power on it goes to green for about 3 to 4 seconds then goes back to red. I try turning the supply power off and turning it on again, but that doesn't work.

Thanks for the answer. At this time I would like to know where the X-sus board is.

    Thanks

    Fred.

    Hello.

Do know where I can buy the parts for this problem?

  • Mr. Denworth Frederick Sep 13, 2009

Do you know what part I would need to buy?

    Thanks

I guest you are not going to answer me anymore.

  • Mr. Denworth Frederick Sep 14, 2009

I think I would rather buy the power pack unit than try to solder/de-solder the specific part.

Do you know the exact name for the unit or part number I'll need.

    Thanks

I tried calling the phone # and the email address and both of them failed. Do you happen to know what is the name of the company that made this particular part for protron? If you are able to, give me a call at 917 854 9580.

    Hopeful.

    Hi Rylee.

I am still working on this Protron TVwith the same condition. I bought the entire power supply board from a company on the internet and replaced the one that wasn't working with the one that I just bought. I still have the same problem.

The red light stay on when pluged in, when the power is turned on the light turns to green for a few seconds and then return toi red. Needless to mention that the screen doesn't light up. I wouild like to know what to do next.

    Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. This has happened due to a faulty X-sus board connection with the power supply board or a faulty X-sus board itself. Please tell me the status of the front panel LED light. It can also be a faulty power supply board on your Proton TV. Also check for the ribbon cables between the power board and X-sus board.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks
    Rylee

    Sep 13, 2009 - Hi

The power supply i was talking about is the internal power supply board. The power supply fails due to swollen capacitors and burnt resistors/transistors on the board. Proton LCD TV's are known for their faulty power supply boards. Please get this checked as this is usually the fault due to which the TV doesn't turn ON. The X-sus board is the vertical deflection board located which is connected to the power supply board with ribbon cables. It is located on the right side when you open the LCD TV.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks
    RyleeSep 14, 2009 - Hi Fred,

Sorry for replying late, you can buy the parts for your TV from www.partstore.com, you need to check which parts have gone bad so that you can buy them. If you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/de-solder then you can buy else you can contact a qualified repair tech for the same.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks
    Rylee Sep 14, 2009 - Fred,

It seems they are not in business any more. Also checked my database for their customer service number and I would like to recommend you to contact protron as its still not working at:

    RyleeSep 21, 2009 - Hi

It can be the signal board, it is labeled on the board a active high or low 5v which sends the command to the power supply. one other trick you can try, isolate the problem use a can of cold spray and hit power supply then the main board, if unit shuts down cold spray will let you see the if the TV ran longer. Please test the power using a multimeter and check for the incoming power on the tuner board and other boards. Also, check for all the connections on boards connected from power supply board.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Your power supply will need to be replaced. I recommend getting an entire new supply for $30 rather than replacing each capacitor that will cost about $15 + and your time.

PULL the back off look for swollen or puffed up capacitors and if it has a Fan make sure it is clean, you have something wrong in power supply.
Last one I worked on had a diry fan cleaned it and TV came back up running Great. Capacitors that go bad are 1000uf 16v.

No pic and no sound would be 9 times out of ten a fuse or a power supply unit failure at that point it will need ot be replaced or repaired locally.

If the unit is under warranty please follow standard procedures at that point o get it repaired/replaced. But you looking at a power supply issue there.

Thanks please accept and rate.

Like many of the new TV's flat screen and rear projection the power boards are made in by sweat shop labour. This forum is constantly asked to solve the same problems many times over and they all relate to no picture no sound after a short time. Power light comes on but nothing after.
If the set is under warranty then claim it.

The z and y sustain boards are fritzed. There will be found a group of capacitors that have either fattened and are about to split or they will be burned. The primary on the power board will allow the power light LED to come one but not fire up the screen. Parts are between $200-300 . However unless you are skilled and understand HT voltage and X radiation from the screen and are then capable of tuning convergence on the pots I suggest a serviceman is employed as their labour and any parts will also have a warranty applied. Many who opt to fix it themselves to save money end up paying double as the boards blow again later because they were either not fitted correctrly or were not tuned. One also has to ask which patrt upline caused the problem in the first place.A service person will be able to check out the total problem not just the obvious and advise you further.

Thanks for using Fixya

X or z + y there are 3 main boards all linked take a look at all of them for burns and capacitors that appear to have swollen. they may all 3 be affected or just one board. But without the ability to check voltagees across various points and check them against the service manual you are flying at night without lights or radar There may also be some IC chips that are involved. This is why I suggested to get a professional in to diagnose it cotrrectly, rather than dabble around and only get it half fixed. Unless you know what you are doing it is not a DIY

  • dennis bullard Sep 22, 2009

You can probably now see why this is not a DIY I can only adivise you not to do it yourself! As I said its not just the obvious that causes this, there are problems up and down the line. Even if you changed all the boards there is no guarantee its going to display correctly as some of the boards require tuning to get the pictrure right.

This set model has power supply problems that Protron does not seem to want to fix. The problem is leakage in a diode that eventually shorts a filter capacitor...poor design. Be prepared to buy a power supply board. This is not a component quality issue, it is a P_ss poor design.

protron filed banruptcy so that they wont be responsible for selling you a lemon, they covered their asses, theres no solution to their tv or electronic problems, they are a bootlegged company, dont bother calling customer service they are some people in india telling you the same thing every time you call, in other words , they dont even know who protron is, they are paid to say whatever and probably paid one dollar an hour, my tv never worked i bought it from national wholesale liquidators and i suggest no one ever buys anything from this store either, they are a rip off! i lost $900. and sad to say so did everyone else that invested money in protrn/sprectroniq

Can you post a picture of this?
Assuming it hasn't affected the operation (yet), you may want to have it corrected because the many cable connections to the display matrix depend on tiny contacts that use pressure to hold them in place. The foam you are talking about is used to support this pressure.
