Question about Delta SM100M 13 Amp 10" Compound Miter Saw

1 Answer

The table binds when I rotate it to change miter settings. When I cut miters(45 degree) I'm not getting straight cuts along the edge. The saw is on a plywood base mounted to a Dewalt miter saw stand. I just changed the blade and cleaned real well. I have owned the saw 5 years. Problems started 3 weeks ago, in the middle of a trim project. I'm building boxes and trimming out the 4x4 posts on my pergola.

Could be the wear plates under the table between it and the base. Or if it doesn't have any then the two mating surfaces are dry and rubbing causing this problem I would suggest going to Dewaltservicenet.com and typing in your model number and downloading a breakdown for the tool. To remove the table on most saws you have to remove the fence and that requires that you square everything up upon disassembly. Let me know and I will try and help further. By the way to clean the parts I use a surface conditioner with something like a scrubbing pad and then after everyting clean use a dry silicone lubricant or equivelant.

Adjusting the miter angle involves two cast surfaces sliding against each other. If those surfaces have some irregularities, high spots on the two surfaces will bind against each other. You may have to disassemble the rotating table from the base and do some filing or grinding.

What is a compound miter saw?

A compound miter saw has a rotating vertical pivot allowing the cutter head & blade to be tilted (or beveled) sideways in addition to the horizontally rotating table. This allows vertical & horizontal angled cuts as well as cuts angled in both planes.

I bought the 10" compound

I have been in the same situation in the past, with a mastercraft miter saw to a point of using playing cards to get that nice tight miter joint. placing the cards between the fence and the piece i was trying to miter.Rioby makes mastercraft all thought they are a good saw they have their limits to the precisions of their cuts. good for fences, decks, stuctural framing ect, were a degree two is not a big thing, but when making furniture or interior trim work or picture frames or hobby craft you need to buy a good pro saw like a dewalt or bosh sliding compoud miter saw they may cost more **** their worth the money they are very precise and will last a life time if taken care of .It will be worth the money when you get that perfect cut every time you use it,it will put the JOY and fun back in your projects and not to mention qualaty in your master pieces.

I have an outside corner cut with a 45 degree slant and cannot figure out what my angle should be to get the right outside miter cut

You can solve this with geometry, but it will take forever and your answer will only be approximate (due partly to the limits of accuracy of the scales on your saw). If you are using a table saw, use scraps of wood and trial and error. It takes a while, but you can get a perfect result. If you are using a miter saw, then support your work from underneath at the angle to match your situation, and simply cut at 45 degrees.

Need to adjust Miter gauge for Delta tablesaw 36-977. The 90 degree stop is off

1) Before setting the Miter gauge, check that the blade is straight (parallel) with the slide grooves. Lock a board in the miter gauge and place against the front of the blade, and then the back of the blade. Is the distance EXACTLY the same (it won't matter if the miter gauge isn't straight and square). If not, you'll need to loosen the table and rotate the blade holder to square it up.
2) Now Cut a board in half the flip one side over and place the cut back together. If it isn't straight, the resulting board will have a "dog-leg".
3) Adjust the miter-set-screw until the cuts on the trial board yield a board that comes out straight (or use a Framing square to check).

The cut is not square on 45degree miter

Hello. First of all adjust your saw on straight cuts so that it is spot on 90 degrees. Then go to the 45 and test it again. Being off a tiny amount at 90 degrees is compounded when you go to 45 degrees.

When cuuting crown molding for an inside corner cope on a compound miter saw ,what degrees do i set the saw

Hello. thanks for choosing fixya. Here is the best way to do an inside corner:
For an inside corner joint, square-cut the first piece of molding and **** it tight into corner.
1. Miter-cut the second piece to 45 degrees.
2. Highlight the leading edge of the molding with a pencil.
3. Cut along leading edge with a coping saw.
4. Smooth the cut edge with 100-grit sandpaper to create a tight joint
