Try taking the DVD player out of the loop, go from the cable box to the TV and see what you get. If everything looks correct, then your DVD player needs to be set to the common channel that your TV uses for the cable box.

From your remote control of the DVD player, do you see the NTSC/PAL button? While you are playing the DVD kindly press that button until you get your screen color. This will most probably solve this problem.

If this does not fix the problem, I can suggest other solutions.

How do I connect to tv there is nothing on the screen from the DVDs player

It depends on your connections for one thing. I did find this piece of information on the DVD player:
"One thing they do not state (in the manual) is that if you are playing it through your Scart socket to your TV. Your TV's Scart socket must be PAL60 compliant".

If they both have HDMI sockets I would get a HDMI cable and connect via that. You will also get a better picture than a scart.

If you are using a scart the connector can also become faulty either inside or a faulty pin so check that too.

Connecting the dvd player via a scart cable

If you select component in on the tv, this should give you a picture, using the current set up. As for audio, depending on the tv, have you used audio in on the tv, or audio out?
It sound obvious but I (even after 5 years+ of installing tv/vcr/dvd) still get caught out with input and out put.
I am unfamiliar with Sansui dvd, if it has a scart connection on the back then yes you can connect to a spare scart on the tv. If it has the single yellow phono for video and the red/white phonos for sound, you can buy a scart to phono lead and use that, not to confuse with the component(blue/green/purple) connections. You cuold also connect the yellow/red/white phono to the same on the tv front/side or rear if available.

Connecting to tv with directtv

The usual way to connect a dvd is via the scart socket as dvd players seldom have an rf output (aerial type output) if you tv does not have a scart there may be phono plugs usually marked red, white, yellow the yellow is video(picture) the other two red/white are audio left and right.

Some dvd players do not have the switching line fro your tv to automatically select scart input but you will be able to select via the tv remote if there are no buttons marked av it can be an oblong with an arrow pointing inwards or you may have to select via the source menu on the tv if you have your original handbook it will give a helpline number for Asda.SUPER8.

I am not getting a picture only sound from my dvd player. What do I have wrong?

if you have connected it to tv via a scart lead, make sure it is fully in on both ends, if it is not fully in, you will get sound but no picture, failing that, try a different scart lead
