Question about Samsung LN-S4041D 40 in. LCD HDTV

5 Answers

My Samsung LNS4041DX/XAA is starting to take forever to turn on. Today it took around 2-3 minutes to finally turn on. It has always been a little weird to turn on and now it is near the end of the warranty period and this is happening. Anyone have a thought on what my next step should be? Will Samsung even bother to fix a slow-turning on TV or does it have to be completely broken to get help?

I just fixed this very same problem. It is true that the capacitors are the problem. However, I think that if you have some minimal skills with soldering, you can fix this yourself. You just need to take out the system board, then the power supply parts are on the top right. The bad capacitor(s) will be bulging at the top and possibly have some brown stuff coming out. The ones that go bad are 1000microfarad, 10V, however you can replace them with higher voltage. I got 35V caps from radio shack for 1.59 each. You just need to solder out the bad ones and then put the new ones in and solder. Remember that the negative end goes on the side with the bold black part of the circle on the system board. Then just cut off the extra ends of the capacitors. If you are capable of doing this yourself, you will spend at most 6 dollars instead of however much a technician costs.

I too took Jonatron's advice and purchased and installed the 4 capacitors by myself. Its a very easy fix. It only cost $6 and 2 hours of my time! I youtubed samsung capacitors, watched the man show me excactly what I needed to do, and just did it. You can do it too!!!! Dont pay those greedy tv repair people hundreds of dollars to do what you can do for $6 bucks!

My SAMSUNG LN-S4041DX/XAA .ExternalClass .ecxhmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.ecxhmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} TV just clicks on/off repeatedly but it won't power up. The LED flashes 4 times and then it goes off. TV is 3 1/2 years old and of course out of warranty.

I am not ready to call a service person because they never seem to do anything but replace boards which is what I am doing.

Here is what I have done so far:

1. Replaced 10V capacitors on power supply board with higher voltage ones but same 1000uF rating. Didn't fix the problem.

2. Replaced entire power supply board with another one. Didn't work.

3. Now I plan to replace the main board on the right and the T con board at the top. I will do this separately to see if it fixes the problem. I will return whatever board that I don't need.

Can anyone think of something I am missing? Is it an easy fix that a repairman could do if he's good? I'm ready to call SEARS after this.

Thanks,
Anthony

Hey fargo1996.. Just wondering how you made out with your tv? Because I ran into the same problem.

Changed capacitors and nothing.. Now I changed the power supply and still nothing..
All I get is a clicking sound and 4 blinking red lights and it keeps repeating like that..

The power supply I got was brand new from samsung..
If anyone else ran into the same problem, let me know.. any help would be greatly appreciated..
    Thanks
    Larry

My Samsung LNS4041DX has a hard time trying to turn on. The red led light blinks a couple times and around 2 or 3 minutes later, it finally comes on?

Replace the 4 Capacitors on the power supply board that are buldged up they are on the top right corner of the board where the ribbon jumps from the power board to the main board with ones from Jameco Part Number 606521 they worke perfect but make sure you put them in with the correct polarity easy to do just keep an eye on it. Very simple repair and took me about 30 min to take itapart solder on the new ones and put it back together all for under $10.

Samsung lnt4042hx/xaa 40in lcd tv wont turn on

I concur with Lightnbaby.... had same problem... my TV LNT4042HX/XAA took 10 min to start sometimes... the capacitors on the power supply board had bubbles on top 4 of them all 10/1000Uf. Samsung wanted to charge $220+ to have a guy come out and fix. J&J parts (samsung vendor) wanted $108 for a new board. I replaced the 4 capacitors for $4.68 and the TV works fine now!!!!!

Same problem with my set. The volume was either fully up, or fully down (usually down), and other controls didn't work- like I couldn't access the menus and could not adjust the width of the screen/aspect ratio.

I lived with it for about six weeks, then took the back off the TV. Just now it seems to be fixed, but I don't know if it will last.

I disconnected the wire leading to the channel up/down, volume up/down and source board, turned on the tv, turned it back off, reconnected the cable, and everything seems fine now.
