How do I change the battery for alarm keypad?

Most keypads are using a 4 wire conductor coming from the security panel. If you have a wireless keypad such as a 5828 should be 3 to 4 AA batteries and as simple as removing the screws from the access panel in the back.

6150 is the type of keypad you have the alarm system itself. The 6150 works on a number of different Honeywell panels. You need to locate the main metal box and open it. There should be a white sticker on the board with the panel type. (Ex. v10,v20, Vista...)

There are two insets in the bottom of the front cover that, when depressed with a small flat screwdriver, will allow you to remove the keypad from it's base.

What model is your alarm system? The maker (Honeywell, Ademco, DSC, Napco, Caddx, ITI, GE, Moose, Morse, etc etc etc) and model number is usually inside the door of the control panel cabinet on a diagram. Numbers printed at the top of the control panel (NOT the keypad) circuit board is also helpful.

The sv9500m units are notorius for having cracks in the solder connections where the 4 wire plug socket attaches to the board in the gas valve. A short term fix or test is to apply pressure to the wiring by twising it, then try a relight. If it works you have a loose solder connection. To repair this (you assume all liability- there is no room for oops here)- remove 2 small security torx screws holding the plastic cover on. Remove only the half of the cover with the on/off switch sticking though it. It should just lift off. you may have to move it around a little no forcing. The solder spots are now accessable. check & resolder the connections where the 4 wire main connector hooks to the board- put the cover back on & test it. done.
