My proposed solution was given to me by a Lexmark Tech. It applies to 4350 and 4850.

How do you stop a test page from printing every time the printer is turned on?

Welcome to FixYa!

Here's how to stop the unwanted print out of test pages.

1. Let the printer print the test page.
2. Place the printed test page in the scanner face down and wait for 10 seconds.
3. Press the scan button of the printer to scan the printed test page.
Make sure that the printer scanned the document properly.

That's it. Every time you install a new cartridge, the printer aligns the print cartridge as well as testing/aligning the scanner.

Note: Try to look at the top of the test page, it should have instructions to place it in the scanner.

I hope that this will help.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Why does my HP 1500 prints a test page every time I begin touse it???

As soon as the printer prints the test page or alignment page place it on the scanner glass (Place the printed side down) before that Examine the scanner glass and white scan backing. Clean the scanner glass and scan backing if they are not clean. To clean the scanner glass and scan backing, use a soft cloth towel slightly dampened with clean water.
After That press scan on the printer button panel it will resolve your issue.
Try to double check it by turning it off and turning the printer back on after 2 minute's. If still the problem exists call HP Total Care 800 - 474 - 6836 if you are from US/Canada.
) Lift the lid of the product.
2) Place the top of alignment page face down in the right front corner of the glass.
3) Place the alignment page face down
4) Close the lid.
5) Press the Start Scan button.
6) The Power button light will blink during the alignment process.
7) After the Power button light stops blinking, alignment is complete.

How to scan photo to save on computer ?

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Pictures to scan
  • Computer
  • Scanner
  1. Step 1 ** Prep your photos **

What we're going to do here is take all your photos and put them onto one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.

So take some tape and put it on the BACK of a photo. Then put that photo on the 8 1/2 x 11. You want to do it on the back so it won't ruin your original.

Then repeat this for the other photos you've got. And make sure you leave some space between the photos. This is so they don't get stuck together or overlap.

If you have lots and lots of photos that won't fit on one page, then use multiple pages to hold them. In other word, put as many as you can on a page.
  2. Step 2 ** Preparing to scan**

Now that you've got your photos on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper, it's time to put it onto the scanner. And be careful when holding the paper so your photos don't all fall off.

Now carefully lay the paper with the photos facing DOWN on the glass of your scanner. And it doesn't matter if you're using a flatbed scanner or one of those combo printer/scanner/fax machines.

TIP #1: I suggest making sure your glass is clean and free of streaks beforehand. Otherwise, you may see lines or distortions when the photos are scanned.

TIP #2: Do NOT feed the paper through the sheet feeder if you have one. This may jam the feeder or damange your photos. So make sure you only lay the paper on the glass!
  3. Step 3 ** Ready to scan **

The only thing left to do now is actually scan your photos. Now depending on your scanner software, you may be able to scan a specific area.

In other words, many scanning software programs allow you to select the region or area of the paper you want to scan. If so, then I suggest you use this to crop your image around a specific picture. This will make the process easier.

When you've done this, scan it! Once it's on your computer, you can edit it to make it ligher, sharper, etc. Or save it as is. Then you'd repeat this process for the next picture.

If your software won't allow you to scan a specific area, then you'll need to scan the entire page. Do it! Once the image is on your computer, then you can use editing software to copy a specific portion to a new file. This is what you'll need to do to get individual photos.

As an alternative, you could crop the one you just scanned and then save it. Then rescan the whole page again and crop it to the next picture. Both ways work the same, so is your choice which way to go.
Hope it will help you :)

Load the item to scan You can scan from the scanner glass or from the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) tray, if your product has one. Make sure that the product is connected to the computer. Turn the product on. Load the picture or document: Scanner glass : Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass (usually on the right-front corner or the left-front corner). Close the scanner lid. ADF : Place the item into the document feeder tray. The printed side faces up and the top edge goes into the tray first. Adjust the width guides to fit the item. CAUTION:Do not load photos in the ADF. Use the scanner glass instead to prevent damage to photos. Use HP Scan to start a scan Use HP Scan to scan items and edit them to adjust resolution or color, crop, remove red eye, etc. To scan a picture or document, follow these steps: Open the HP Scan program in the Hewlett-Packard folder. From the Scan Profiles screen, click either Pictures ( ) or Documents ( ) . Click Profile Settings , and then adjust any settings in the Capture , Adjust , and Page Options (for documents) or Enhance (for pictures) tabs as appropriate. If you want to save these settings as a custom scan profile to use in the future, follow these steps: Click the drop-down list to the left of Profile Settings , and then click Duplicate Selected Profile . Type a name for the profile in the text box under the profile icon. The new profile saves under Custom Profiles. Click Scan . Make any desired changes to the scan preview by using the icons available in the toolbar and the Adjust window. NOTE: You can use + and ? buttons in the Bottom bar to add or delete pages in the OUTPUT list. You can reorder pages by dragging them to new positions in the Sidebar. Select a destination from the Toolbar: If you opened HP Scan from other software, and want to send the scan to that software, click Return . If you are ready to save, print, or send the scan to a specific destination, click Save , Print , or Send . NOTE: If you are saving the file, make sure to select the file format that you want.

Every time I try to batch scanning on my Pixma MP530 I get a vertical line running through the page. I've cleaned the platen glass, the inner side of the document cover, the transparent sheet (I even...

When using the ADF to scan multiple document the scanner assembly stay stationary and the paper is fed across it. Where the scanner parks for this there is something between the scanner and the document, likely on the glass. Often there is a small strip of glass on one end of the scanner bed. Clean here if there is one, otherwise look around and I'm sure you'll find it. Remember, never spray cleaning solutions directly onto the glass, always onto a cloth or towel first. The scanner has a calibration strip that can be damaged otherwise.

Whitch way does the paper go in for faxing ?

If your using the feeder on the top of the scanner, it should go face up. If you are faxing from the glass - face down.

When scanning, the scanned page is not readable from a third of the page down to two thirds of the page.

It is important that the item you scan comes in close contact with the scanner glass. If the resulting scanned image is not clear, check to see that the item is in full contact with the scanner glass. The scanner uses optical character recognition (OCR) to convert text on a page to text that you can edit on your computer.
  • If you scan text but cannot edit it, make sure that you make the following selections during scanning:
  • Scanned text might not appear on your computer exactly as it appeared on the original, especially if the original contains faint or smudged text. For example, some characters might be incorrect or missing. As you edit the text, compare the scanned text against the original, and then make corrections as necessary.
  • To change text scanning options, click the Scan Document Settings button in the initial What are you scanning? screen.
  • The OCR software is installed by default when you install the HP Scanning software during scanner setup. If you use the Custom option when installing the software, you can choose not to install the OCR software. Try reinstalling the software using the default install options.

  • If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

White line down side of page when scanning

If this is happening only when you are scanning using the automatic document feeder, check for something blocking light above the scanner. If you open the scanner top, look along the left side of the scanner glass where the paper is scanned by the automatic document feeder. If you see anything on the glass there, clean it with a soft cloth dampened with clean water.
