The cartridge will slide off an internal housing cage which contains the float. Look for a knob, thumb tab or dial at the bottom of the cartridge and rotate bay hand. Always wipe the area where the filter meets the vac body before reinstalling and drain thoroughly before storing.
When full of water you should hear the pitch of the vac motor change.

I have a 10 gallon Shop.Vac 3.0 but I don't have the instruction booklet. Do I take off the pleated "paper" filter to vacuum up water? Do I use the vac with no filter for liquid?

Yes you should remove the filter for liquids. If the filter is not removed the internal float stop will not operate correctly. This will lead to the liquid being drawn up into the impeller and around the motor.
However I still like to have something in place because in most instances the liquid you vacuum up will not be without some solids. So I like to use a foam insert. Places like Home Depot carries a universal insert that works great.
Hope that helps.

Using shop vac 52722-90 for wet applications

yes, the foam filter is what you should use, also make sure you remove any bag, or paper filter, the water would make it fall apart.

Hi there I have a Shop.Vac QS800 57519-63 its about 6 years old. I don't have manual for it & want to know how I can use it in the wet mode Thanks for your help. Jasper

To use a shop vac to **** up water you just need to remove the filter element inside. open it up just as if you were going to empty out the dirt and on the top center you will see a filter. unscrew the retaining nut on the bottom and remove filter. After unit is dry and you are done using it in the wet mode replace the filter and put the retaining nut back on.

Ridgid 16.5 gallon motor running with no suction

When you use the shop vac for cleaning up water you must remove the filter.

The filter is for dust particles not for water
I would replace your filter and dump the water out from the shop vac, Also after each time you vacuum up water dump it out of shop vac.

I hope this helped you happy new year!

Set up the shop vac to pick up water

I figured I had nothing to lose so I just started vacuuming. I thought I had to turn the end of the hose that connects to the shop-vac around (which I did so that it brought the water down to the 'bucket'. Other than that, I even went to Yahoo Answers and asked for input. The answers were - just vacuum, they didnt think there was anything to do with the vacuum to set it up for wet vac. I had removed the cloth filter used for dry vacuuming so I was ok with that. I also saw a YouTube video that said basically to remove the cloth filter. Ok .... that was not so difficult. Thank goodness too.
