Question about D-Link DES-1008D 8-Port Ethernet Switch (790069217708)

Same thing as above, want to se up a LAN connection

My friend stays acoss the building opposite me, now we wanted to set up a LAn Connection to enjoy playing games , share data n also the interent..

1) -- The issue is that i have switch located at his PC from which the cat5e (STP - so dat rules out any interferences from any singnal site or anytin for that matter) that is around 80mt long pulls through my house.. now when i connect the wire directly into my onboard ethernet port, everything works fine no drop in data packet/ no disconnections or any issue..
2) -- Now comes in my 2nd Friend living in my building, he also wants to join the Fun... so we put a switch in my house, but as soon as i take the wire comming from my 1st friends house and put it in the witch at my house so the 2nd friend can aalso share everything..i experience drop in data packet/ disconnections, etc..

The Switches we use at both places are the D-Link DES 1008D and for the entier cabling we have used STP - Shielded Twiste Pair Cat5e wires..

I am tiored and confused as to y this issue is face by me even when the connection is stable when i put it straign into my PC, but has trouble when going ito the Switch..

PLS Help

Understand the Setup - My Friend 'A' has a net connection, from his router, he is pulling the connection to a switch, then distributing a cable to his PC and the other one to the other building to me which is 80mtrs away (all of our cabling is done by STP cat5e wires)

Tried what you said however nothing worked..

    2) To add to da above problem, even as i connect the Cable coming from my Friends house directly to my PC which is an onboard nVidia enthernet slot the network is never detected at the 1st GO and it says "unIdentified Network" alwys. i need to alwys remove th wire put it again or go the the "Manage Connection Tab" and manually disable n enable the LAN..then after much struggle smtimes it connects to my Friends network n then to the net that we are sharing...

    3) So pls help me with my very First proiblem to get all 3 of us Friends on 1 network and sugest some ways to share files n chat on the LAN & play games like quake3arena (my fav, played in a lot of cafes, but nw wanna do it at the comfort of home & mybe FIFA / or any multiplayer game for that matter) and then with the 2nd Problem i mentioned above.. and then with the 3rds one an the 4th below as well..

    4) And yea also i have VIsta 32bit and t stakes SHIT load of time to boot, until it comes to the welcome screen it's like 10/15 min good... and btw im using this OS (32bit) cause my TV tuner Pixelview PlayPro4 has drives only for this ver of Windows.. and do u think an upgrade to Win7 would help n if my Tuner would wrk on it?

THANKS!! in advance to whoever helps me out with this peril...

Once you connect the 2nd switch - you must power down the cable modem and the original router along with all PC's connected to the network.
Then power up the cable modem, wait 2 minutes,
power up the router - wait 2 minutes, then power up all the switches. Once all downstream devices are on - power up all the PC's and you should be OK.

Hi My Lenovo G560 is behaving strangely offlate. The LAN always shows disconnected. This happens with internet at my place as well as my friends place. And when I took the laptop to Lenova service center...

That is odd.

First thing I'd do is try another ethernet cable. Then I'd try connecting to somewhere other than your house - that will tell you if it's your laptop or your home.

I have had windows update kill my wired connection after a driver update. Obvious things to check - make sure your LAN connection is set to enabled and to dhcp.

It could be that your MAC address has been blocked by your ISP, but if wireless works and your friends, not likely.

at a command prompt, and connected only via wired, type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew and if any errors.

Your router has an lan address or IP. Something like This is what you must connect to. Each of the machines you want to connect must have (in this example) an IP number between and As long as your machines all have a unique IP they should all connect to your router. Your modem will have a gateway and typically this will be something like So setup for one machine may look like this [ subnet

To find these setting, click on your lan connection, select "properties" and choose "Internet Protocol TCP/IP". Here you will see these settings. Your router guide will give you these settings, make sure you get them from your router guide.

One static IP has internet. how on a LAN?

You need two network adopters in your system.
Connect Internet connection in first Network card and from the other network card give it to your Switch or hub
If you are using XP system you can use Internet connection sharing to share the internet in your LAN systems.
Follow the steps to enable using ICS

1.Enable Internet Connection sharing in the LAN properties in the first network card.
2.Now your second network card automatically get an IP address in the range of 192.168.*.* series
3.Connect other systems in the LAN and make sure the system has selected Optain IP atomatically from DHCP.

You are all set.

There is also an advanced way to setup this .
Install IPCOP firewall in a system with two network cards and u can share the internet with the firewall settings
