I did use a ceaner but that didn't solve the problem!

  • h_p_williams Sep 13, 2009

It doesn't seem as if the expert has offered enough information. The screen comes on so you can see it lit up but the DVD isn't playing!

  • h_p_williams Sep 15, 2009

The only sound is whirring when the DVD is loaded first for a short peiod. Have tried different DVDs and CDs but nothing.

What do you mean by the Diode

  • h_p_williams Sep 16, 2009

Thank you for your response. It isn't covered anymore by the warranty so will need to find a repair person.

Hello h p Williams This is a relatively common problem with all dvd players. The problem is that either the lens has become dirty or the lens has burnt out. If the lens is dirty , you have two relatively easy options to fix this. The first option is to go to your local music/electronics store and ask them for a cd/dvd lens cleaner kit. This kit consist of a CD with one or two little brushes on it , and a lens cleaning solution. You simply put a drop of solution on each of the brushes and then insert the cd/dvd in the dvd player. Play this disc for about 5 min and then try one of your normal disks. Repeat a few times if this does not solve your problem immediately. The other option requires you to have a little bit of technical knowledge. It involves removing the outer casing of the dvd player and locating the lens. Borrow some nail varnish REMOVER (not varnish, believe me , someone has made that mistake before) and put a drop on a cotton ear tip. Gently in a circular motion clean the lens. Do not press against the lens , just balance the cotton ear tip on the lens with your fingers. Now take another cotton tip and pull on the cotton to loosen it up a bit. Gently dry the lens in the same manner as you did the cleaning. Make sure no pieces of cotton got stuck near the lens after drying. Replace to cover and insert the power and it should work. If you followed either one of these steps and the unit will still not read a disc , the lens has blown and will have to be replaced. Depending on your unit , this will cost about half of the cost of a new player so I would suggest you replace the unit all together. I hope this information is helpful to you and please feel free to contact me if you need more information. Kind Regards Stephan

Please remember to disconnect the power supply before opening the cover of the unit.

I apologize for the lack of paragraphs in my post , I don't know why it posted this way.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please tell me if you can hear any sounds from the player when the dvdv starts spinning? If sound is there then it is due to low diode strength. However, no picture and no sound then it may be a faulty/loose ribbon cable connector inside the player or the digital decoder is defective. Also try running a VCD or another DVD if it helps.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

    Hi

By Low strength Diode i mean the laser diode that reads the content of your DVD and output it to the digital video processor may have faulty or its connection might be loose. As no sound is present it can also be a digital decoder. Please get this checked, and check if it is under warranty so that you can get it repaired.

Hi,

It just seems that your player has a dirty optical lens and that wjy it cannot read the disc that you loaded., Better try to use a optical disc cleaner and try to clean the player lens.

Hope this helps

Pioneer dv-2010 dvd player makes a whirring noise

That's because the lazer on the tray is trying to read the disc. Does this happen to other discs? When the lazer can't read the file, the drive spins up the disc to help it read it.

Why won't the battery hold a charge anymore?

The cause of this most batteries have CELLS once those cells break down then you will not be able to recharge this-is called CYCLES. What you doing when recharging is taking the energy completely out of the battery and replacing it will new and what this does is takes away a cycle. Once those cycles have been depleted then you cannot recharge it. Now you could take the battery out put it in a plastic bag and put it in a freezer but this will only last for short time.
