I do hear a roaring noise on the spin cycle, so it is probably the spin bearing as you suggested , I will apprecciate if possible to let me know with diagrams or guidance how can I remove it and repair it , since I have some mechanical experience , my trade is air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic so I do have tools and experience on disassembling equipment , otherwise I wouldn't mind knowing how I can obtain a manual or more information on the subject. Thanking you ,

    hi,

I think the noise comes from the bottom of the gearbox , the problem is I do not have a proper drawing of it or how to dismantle or remove from the machine.

    Hi,

My main problem is that I do not have a manual or instructions to follow of how to dismantle the gearbox The noise is a grinding noise of the type when is a faulty bearing or lack of lubrication . I suppose it is very hard to obtain instructions of how to dissasemble the gearbox and replace the faulty part. The cost of a new gearbox is $ 660 Aus dollars , the sad part is that the rest of the machine is in perfect condition . Thanks,

I know it sounds silly but where is located the drum b earing ins this machine is like a sleeve but if I remove the drum and move the gearbox by hand I start hearing the sound that is like a grinding noise of a failed bearing but which one ? I have not been able to get a proper drawing and description of parts or how to dissasemble the gearbox that I think is an unusual shape because it looks like a banjo

    Thanks Roland

This is quite a common problem.

Make sure that the filter and waste water pipes are clear of obstructions.
Check that the machine is not overloaded.
Does it make the same noise when there is no load in it and you rotate the drum by hand?

If it makes noise then the most likely problem is the bearing needs replacing. You will need a serviced engineer to call and replace the bearing.

Alternatively, but unlikely is the mounting springs that keep the drum centred have worn or broken due to having heavy loads which will allow the drum to make a load knocking sound when in use.

Can you describe the noise? Is it like a plane taking off, grinding, clicking, or something else?

How to Stop Washing Machine Noise Model Number LAT 9606 BGE - writer_avatar.gif Contributor By eHow Contributing Writer Article Rating: stars_3_15.gif (16 Ratings) It can be tempting to ignore washing machine noises, especially if the machine is still working. But washing machine noise is not only annoying, it can also be a sign of serious damage. When armed with a few tips, you can determine what problem may be causing your washing machine to rattle, and what you can do to stop it.
jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); });

Difficulty: Moderately Easy Instructions
  1. Step 1 Check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings.
  2. Step 2 Turn the drum by hand and listen for loud noises. If the drum itself is split or the 'spider' is corroded, broken or has come apart from the back of the drum it will create a loud noise on every turn of the drum. (When the bearings have gone bad, the noise is constant the entire time the drum is spinning.)
  3. Step 3 Look for obvious dents and creases in the drum or look for coins or small objects stuck inside the tub underneath the drum when a horrendous noise is made while clothes are in the tub.
  4. Step 4 Clear the water pump from obstructions like coins or small objects when a noise occurs while the washing machine is emptying water.
  5. Step 5 Remove the sump hose and look for bra wires if you hear a light scraping noise when the drum is turned by hand. You can also check to make sure a wire isn't poking out of one of the holes in the drum. In this case, you can pull the wire out easily with pliers.
  6. Step 6 Take the belt off and run the motor alone if you hear a high pitched squealing noise to check for motor bearing damage or wear. If you still hear the noise without the belt, it's the motor bearing.

How noisy is it? Do you hear a thumping sound and the washer seems to want to "wallk"? If so, the laundry load is unbalanced and needs to be redistributed in the basket. Is it noisy like a whining or grinding noise? If so, it could have a bad bearing or the clutch may be going out. Is it a high-pitched squeal? If so, it could be the belt is loose and needs to be replaced.

Please let me know if I am on target or not so I can help you further with this issue. Thanks!

Hi

If your machine is making a kind of "roaring noise" when it spins it is likely that the spin bearing is failing and worn out on the machine.

This bearing on its own is around $12 but there is a fair amount of labor involved in replacing it. The machine will need to be dissassembled in order to access the bearing.

Have a look at this link to see whats involved. The model number is different but the concept is the same.

This link provides exploded diagrams your particular machine.

GE front load washer model number WBVH6240HWW SERIAL NUMBER RM200099T spins freely by hand but started smoking and belt behind looks fine. What could be the problem. Before the smoke started when spin...

Hmm... Kind of difficult to say for sure. Does your inner spin basket wiggle up and down? If so, you've got a main bearing going. Also, put it in a spin cycle for a minute or so and then try smelling the windings on your main motor. If they smell burnt, you'll need to replace the main motor. Also, one last thought, check to see if your drain pump overheats. I say this because the drain pump is active during the spin cycle and a bad drain pump can sound extremely noisy and start overheating.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

The belt turn the pulley, but the height of the pulley is worn out so it didn't push up a mechanism to release the brake and to engage with the clutch to make the spin.
You have to takethe shaft out to study how it works then it makes sense on what I 'm talking.
The pulley cost only $11 but it is a major laboring exercise. It is a good learning to have hands on to this problem. Good luck on replacing the pulley.
