Does the DVD drive appear at all in "explorer"? If so, try deleting it in "Device Manager" then power down the P.C. for about a minute. Switch on the P.C. It should find the drive and install the Generic drivers itself. If you still see gobbledygook when you click on the drive, I suspect the DVD unit is faulty.

Hi! I have Windows XP (SP3) installed on this computer. It has CD/DVD drive but the Cyberlink PowerDVD software packkage no longer exists on the hard drive. I do not wish to restore to an earlier date,...

the software suite isn't working? sometimes the installed apps may save a basic copy of the install app on your hard drive. however, you may still need the activation code in order to use the app in question.
also why do you need to do a system restore in the first place? did one of your apps crash on you? this would simple if that is the case, simply re-install that app, however, if is just the power dvd 5 then please search for your software cd's. you know those music cd holders work wonders for holding your computer software cd's too! i have 2x 300 cd holder books that i use for keeping all of my computer software cd's in. just mark the cd holder book for computer cd's only that way nothing else gets put into the cd holder book.
hope this was some help. have a gr8 day

Screen displays low illumination.dvd drive not functioning.tv ok, av in ok.

Screen Display Issues:

Go to the BIOS. Once you power on the laptop immediately hold down the F2 key then BIOS will show up. Try to check in BIOS if the display has low illumination if yes then try connecting your laptop to an external monitor then toggle the display to the external monitor. If the display from the external monitor is fine then it means the LCD has issues and needs replacement. But before going into any LCD replacement try to update the BIOS version first.

DVD Issues:
Check first the DVD icon in My Computer window. If missing then kindly do this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318

Delete the upper and lower filters.
Uninstall the DVD device driver from device manager.
Restart the computer.
Check BIOS if ODD or DVD is present. If yes then F12 boot to DVD if failed replace DVD drive.
If the DVD not present in BIOS replace DVD.

Dvd/cd-rw drive doesnt appear in my computer

<p>I had the same problem after running the software "SuperISO", this software reset my DVD drive and make it becomes a hard drive instead. Google SuperISO you find more info about it.</p>
<p>Anyway, I have to reinstall window vista, and after boot up, device manager does not know the DVD drive or displays it at all. </p>
<p>Accidentally I resolved this issue a few days latter. One day when the computer is off, I plug in a new device "Optical mouse", and boot up my computer. The program automatic detect a new hardware run and install a necessary driver for a new hardware, after that, it also detect my DVD drive and install the driver for it. </p>
<p>After the computer boot up, I got my DVD drive back and it working fine like before, does not cost me a dime.</p>
<p>In your case, try to plug in any new device and boot up your pc. Good Luck</p>

DVD/CD disk drive keep rejecting

Sounds like it is not closing properly so the computer just opens it again ? if it is of the detachable type ( small release tag under computer marked with a closed or open lock icon next to release lever ) take out the drive with the door open it possible , check inside for any obstruction ( favorite place for children's random M&Ms ) if none visible check that the disk holder is below the carrige by using a small ruler place acroos the slide and see if the edges of the disc protrude above if not and you have found no foreign bodies in the drive replace the player into the machine .( I have found that occasionaly during manufacture the cariges are set a little high and as they wear they settle and they then catch on the center spindle ,gently easing the disc spindle holder down usually cures the problem .) There is I am afraid also a software glitch that causes this problem so if you have no joy with the first fix try uninstalling the drive from the Device manager and reinstalling on boot up . you do this by clicking on control panel .. then ... Device manager .. disk drives double click and the drives will appear select dvd and right click then uninstall .. for XP just go Control panel system device manager etc : reeboot and the computer will re install the DVD and hopefully clear the glitch .. hope this is of help to you Regards Vortash

Lenovo y510 Dvd drive is not displaying

... and no drivers came with the drive either? Do you have the restore CD/DVD provided by Lenovo? I'm guessing this was a pre-installed OS and all files came on the HDD. When you installed Windows 7, you lost the path to the std Lenovo drivers... or wiped/formatted the HDD and lost everything? Can you pull the DVD drive out of the bay and see who makes it? Lenovo does NOT make DVD ;-) I'll bet it is a std Yeasu, Phillips or Samsung/Sony and with the model# and your OS info you will be able to get generic drivers for it

Good Luck
...As an example, my Top of Line HP has Sanyo drive ;-)

Try to copy a dvd to my dell desktop

you can't copy a DVD to your computer without the proper hardware or software. you will need to have at least a DVD rom drive, of course. and hen you will have to find legal DVD copying software and then I'm pretty sure you will have to get the copyright holder's permission to have the DVD on your machine...I think...if that was the answer you were looking for.

DVD holder tray in CPU unit.

This could be due to a sticky eject button on the front of the drive or a damaged PCB inside it. If it's the latter the only way around it is to replace the drive.
