Providing it is a manufacturing fault your warranty will cover it, if you've cracked it , that's misuse.

My cq50-211nr laptop was accidentally dropped and has a crack.

Ordering the part and replacing it yourself may be just a tad cheaper, but at a risk, may break new screen or cause problems with more parts, I would take it to HP, then again, an LCD screen replacement costs about the same as a new compuer. It's really up to you.

Good Luck ;)

this is caused by the video chip, there's a one year extended warranty for most models, but if not under warranty, there's is a fix for it, most repair stores will say is a bad motherboard because they don't know how to fix the problem, I've been fixing alot of HP's with that same problem, some people send their laptops to us because they can't find anyone that will fix it. feell free to email me with any questions.

My hp pavilion dv9000 17 power on but see black screen

If your 9000 is under two years old, you should contact HP customer care and have unit serviced under warranty.
HP has had allot of problems with the 6000 and 9000 units and in response has offered an additional year from date of purchase.
Its worth a shut. Doesn't cost a dime.
Hope this information has helped you.

Bad screen?

The backlight failed. This will happen eventually. When it's happened to me, the quote to fix it has been around $200 depending on the size of the screen.

If you've had it for less than a year, you can contact HP, and they will fix it for free. Some retailers (like Costco) extend the warranty for an extra year as well.

Hp mini screen is blank

Hello imlapd. If you don't even see words on the screen when you first turn it on (the BIOS puts things on the screen before it boots to Windows), then there are 2 possible causes. First, the video output or something else on the motherboard is bad. Second, the LCD display (the laptop screen) has failed. The cost to fix either one of these will be close to what the laptop cost brand new if not more. The good news is, if your HP Mini is less than a year old or you got an extended warranty, HP will fix it for free. You just have to call their customer service.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Hi, that sounds like the integerated video graphics is going bad and it's not actually the screen. the zd7000's were known for video graphics failure. there was a lawsuit filed against hp for the zd models about a year ago to get a free motherboard replacement because of the video issue but it's too late to send it in now for the free repair. the zd models don't have a replacable video card in them like most laptops which the only way to fix the problem ould be to purchase another motherboard, you could try ebay but they're not that cheap. My screen went black

If your Notebook's screen went blank you can do the following:--

1) Try booting with an external monitor. Connect the external monitor to the VGA port given to the Notebook.
Result:1 --- If the external monitor is working fine, then the problem is with LCD. If your Notebook is under warranty you can get it repaired free of cost.
If your Notebook is out of warranty you can go to HP.com and purchase the LCD screen (If you are in USA please go to this link :--- http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/)

Result 2:--- After connecting the external monitor even the display is not there, then it is the problem with the motherboard. If your Notebook is under warranty then you can avail free repair.
If your Notebook is out of warranty you can go to HP.com and purchase the Motherboard (If you are in USA please go to this link :--- http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/)

Limited Warranty on HP Laptop??

Cracked screens are never covered by a limited warranty. A limited warranty from a manuf. covers defects in product or workmanship at the factory. Screens can run 600-1200 bucks.
