Question about Tomtom Go 630 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

When I switch on my device I get a flashing white "X" in a red circle. The small picture of the hard drive[?] also appears on the bottom right of the screen. I have tried re-setting several times to no avail. I have pressed he re-set button for > 10 seconds, then the on/off switch and the re-set together. If I press the reset very quickly many times I get a black screen with basic data. But the problem remains. The device is unusable.

    Dear Mr Kumar,

Thank you for taking the trouble to try to sort out the problem, unfortunately it did not solve the problem. I located Customer Support at TomTom UK and got the following advice. [Note I have an iMac and the Spotlight function should be disabled]:

Hi,

First turn your firewall off (if you have one).
You need to go into your 630 with the TomTom Home software and erase the downloaded software (with the remove items from my device) and reset the device (little reset button under the unit keep it pressed for 5 seconds), place it back in the cradle and restart your computer and than restart the 630 ,

Bring the TomTom Home program up, and when the TomTom Home software in your computer restarts and detects the 630 it will tell you that you need to update the application, if it doesn't than you force the update by going to the add maps option, select items on my computer, select applications and press the add button,

when done, go back and to device (option in top of your screen) and select disconnect device, restart your 630 and it should be back to life with the upgraded software.

Hope this Should solve your problem else Call their tech support at no charge (866-486-6866, Glen) , really good service

hello, The CD symbol in the corner is to show that the internal hard drive has a problem searching for or loading files. If your lucky your hard drive will be OK but somehow you have lost or corrupted data. If you made a backup copy of your hardrive sometime in the past then now might be a good time to reinstall that backup. If your'e unlucky then your hardrive is shot and the only answer will be to replace the drive. This can be done at reasonable cost by obtaining one from a defunct MP3 player or similar nano , Ipod type that has a suitable microdrive. Scrapper types of these can be found littering Ebay , but of course keep in mind the risk that these too could be damaged. Good luck , hope it all works out for you.

After switching on the device a picture of a tom tom sat nav comes on and a flashing white x with a rounded red background. This is as far as the switch on goes

there is a reset switch on bottom of unit a small hole that you need to insert a paperclip or pin in and hold for 20 to 30 seconds that may work
