It means that you ask it to do a job ...I mean a task ...and it needs this codec to read files or save files in the format you desire...so ...if its an automatic download-install you may proceed ...but be careful if it ask for fees and you dont really need this feature...just cancel and abord...and use it for what you already done ...

When playing a tape on the right side the drive will stop as if at the end of the tape. This is during playback, seems to be random and may happen several times. Also, What is the difference between...

First - your drive problem. Nearly all tape decks use belts to drive the various parts from a single motor. When belts get old, dirty, or worn, they slip. At some point, if the tape gets a bit "heavy" the belt doesn't have the torque to keep things moving. You can try cleaning the belt if you can get to it. Use some isopropyl alcohol and a lint free paper towel. This may only provide a temporary fix and a new belt may be needed. If you have one of the high-end direct drive units (rare in side by side decks) then the drive motor has an issue.
Ah Dolby. Where to start. To answer your question as asked, B and C refer to different "curves" used by the Dolby to reduce tape noise.B came first obviously. The real issue with ANY Dolby is that it is a 2 part system. A tape must be encoded with a Dolby unit for proper playback with Dolby. So, you would have to know that the tape was recorded with Dolby B and you would select Dolby B for playback. The Dolby will "appear" to reduce noise on any tape because it will roll off the high frequencies but the frequency response will be all messed up. To further complicate this mess, any Dolby circuit really needs to be properly calibrated to work 100% as intended. In consumer gear, this is nearly impossible so they settled for a close approximation. In pro studios, Dolby encoded tapes included set up tones at the front of the tape so the engineer doing the playback could align his system to the recording system. All that complexity is why DBX came along with their system but Dolby had good marketing and it was "close enough" that people liked the hiss reduction even when applied to a non-encoded tape. Of course, people tolerate MP3s for the convenience too.
Anyway, hope that helps. Look for the Dolby symbol on the recorded tape. If it is there, it will tell you if it is B or C curve - select accordingly. If not- it probably was not encoded and you'd have better frequency response using the "off" setting.

I cannot get sound from a sony BDS350 (Blue ray

This must be configuration problem on the BD player. In this case receiver just outputs the signal it receives digitally. If it displayes PCM 2ch, that means it receives only 2 channel audio from BD player.
You can try to configure the BD player not to decode audio and to output the RAW stream over coax cable to the receiver. Then the receiver should get raw Dolby Digital encoded data and be able to decode it into 5.1 channels. It should also display Dolby D instead of PCM in such case.

Why is the lap top telling me i need a decoder to watch a movie

DVDs are one of the most popular types of media sold today. They hold feature length motion pictures, videos, audio and countless other types of media such as software and data. DVD's not only can be played in stand alone DVD players, but also most computers have a DVD drive. If a DVD includes media such as a feature length motion picture, this media has been encoded and sometimes compressed. In order for this type of DVD to be played on a computer's DVD drive, the data on the DVD must first be decoded; this is done with computer software which are know as Decoder. It should be noted that there are many types of DVD formats, hence several types of encoder programs to make a DVD accessible to computer users.

DVD's encode data in a variety of ways. For instance Dolby Digital data requires a Dolby Digital decoder. The same is true with DTS (Digital Theater System). These are both audio data that require decoding, but many video images stored on a DVD also require decoding including
MPEG (this is the most popular video format for DVD's). It should be noted that in order to play a standard DVD, the DVD player is not enough, you also need the software to decode the images making the data fully functional.

Hope this Explanation will help you,,,,,,

Cheers!!!!!

How to play dts/dolby digital on HK AVR5

I believe he avr-5 has 6 channel inputs, what you will need is a dolby digital 5.1 and DTS outboard surround sound processor, say an item as the Technics SH-AC500 decoder, a Harman Kardon Signature 2.1 DTS version outboard processor/preamp, and many others on the market by different manufactors, Run the discrete audio outputs from the Processor into the AVR 5`s 6 channel inputs, select 6 channel input or DVD inputs on the receivers selector and your good to go. Be sure you are playing Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS encoded material.
