Question about Frigidaire FRS3R5EMB Side by Side Refrigerator

Frigidaire Side By Side Not Cooling

Got a frigidaire side by side -- Model # FRS26H5ASB5. Seems like everything is running O.K. (lights on, interior fan blowing on frig side, cooling fan working, water dispensing, coils clean, ). But there is a buzzing sound every 2-3 min. that lasts for 5 seconds. Both freezer and frig are "cool" but not cold enough -- ice slowly melting, etc... Not sure if it is a condensor problem or defrost control failure -- any ideas?

That sounds like the start relay is buzzing. Unplug and lets check the compressor to see how hot and if too hot to hold your hand on the top of compressor we need to leave it unplugged until we find out if the start relay, start capacitor, overload or if the condenser fan stops after running a short while. We will need to check the compressor before buying any parts and eliminate the condenser fan motor. I have seen them run for a few hours get hot and stop causing the same symptons as your. Here is what you need to do.

    HOW TO CHECK A COMPRESSOR
Unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel that covers the compressor. There should be 3 wires going inside the cover of the compressor. Mark all 3 and mark their location so if compressor is OK you can put them back in same order. The plastic cover may snap on and you may need to squeeze the sides to unlock the cover and sometimes there is a metal clip holding the cover in place. Remove the cover. May look hard but it's simple. There will be three connections under the cover and 2 will go through the start relay. Unplug them leaving the three prongs exposed. They may be marked R =Run, S=Start and C=Common. Set your meter on continuity and then begin by testing 2 at a time until you have checked S to R and R to C an C to S and S to R again. You should get a reading all the way around. If no reading between any of the pairs as you go around you should get no reading between any two the compressor has an open winding and is defective.
Then if it passes that test then touch one probe to R and the other to the copper pipes or clean metal on outside of compressor, then S to metal outside and C to metal outside. If you get a reading this way even just a little. The compressor is a burnout. Then let me know what you find.If you have more questions or need help feel free to let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze 864-812-1887

Why doesn't my Frigidaire FRT21TNG freeze or cool fresh section?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRT21TNG, is not freezing or cooling. I also see that the coils are not freezing, the drain line and everything cleaned, and that the capacitor was replaced. From this point, I suggest contacting your local authorized technician. They will be able to diagnose your appliance and determine why it will not cool as it should. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Most likely the=> 5303918476 Defrost Control Board will need to be replaced. This board can be found inside the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. Unplug power and lets examine the board. Here is another source for the board 5303918476 Defrost Control Board Here is a photo of the inside of the control panel HERE and item location 23 is that board. I am here should you have questions, Sea Breeze
Soemtimes the defrost control board will show signs of failure with burn marks and heat damage but not always. It is likely this board is the problem and in some cases the start relay and run capacitor can cause these same symptons.

From your description, you have a bad evaporator fan motor. The part number for a replacement motor is #5304445861.This is not a direct replacement but is more reliable.Remove everything in the freezer, take off the back panels and you will see the fan.
If there is a large frost buildup on the coils and the fan is turning you have a defrost problem. If that is the case, please call me at 334-347-0000 and I will walk you through it.
