I hope you've already unlocked your DVD player by now, but for all those searching after you, I got the solution from Panasonic.

Make sure the device is on the DVD/CD mode. Press the Stop button on the main unit and the >=10/Enter button on the remote control simultaneously. You will see the word "Initilize" on the device, and at that point it is unlocked.

Had a similar problem with a Sony DVD recorder which I found was due to standing the unit on its front which caused the 'on/off' switch to be depressed for a long time, this put the unit into 'childlock' mode - I found holding the 'on/off' down for about 20 sec cleared it.

Disc tray will not open and only says "ERROR" when I hit open.

The tray moves by the use of a rubber belt. These often come off and therefore it won't move. Replacement is easy if you can get to it. There are other causes too, but this is more than likely the cause.

Another user wrote that by redoing the speaker wire connections and turning the volumn on low at start up he solved it. Try this and let me know if it worked.

there may be a lock/unlock selection in the menu somewhere, something like a parental lock on tv sets, this is just a thought on my part.
