Are you getting an error message? If you're getting an error 'Working offline', click on file and uncheck Work Offline.

But if you're not getting any error messages, try using the Internet Explorer to make sure that there's no problem with the internet connection. If same problem occurs, then it's the problem with the internet connection and not with the Mozilla Firefox.

But if the internet worked using IE, then you need to uninstall the Firefox and re-install it. I was once had a problem like this. I'm currently using version 3.5.2.

Have a great day!

Most likely this problem are configured into Proxy configuration. On your Mozilla options choose no proxy.

SOURCE: downloaded new version mozilla firefox but cannot access web

Uninstall the one you have now, manually delete all Mozilla/Firefox remaining folders, use another pc to download (as in Save, not Run) the installers for the latest Firefox and a system cleaner like
http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html
move these installers to a USB stick then plug the stick in your pc.
First install and run the system cleaner, after it has done its job launch the installer of Firefox.

SOURCE: I can't seem to successfully download Mozilla Firefox. Can you help ?

I would suggest that you first uninstall the old version for Firefox. In Windows XP, go to: Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Select "Mozilla Firefox", and proceed to uninstall.

Then download a new version of Firefox (using another browser, such as IE or Chrome). The latest version is available at: http://www.getfirefox.com/

Then install the new version (click on the file that you download).

For more on installation, see this Firefox help file:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing%20Firefox%20on%20Windows

Hope that's helpful.

When I am trying to access websites for school such as pearson's MathXl and to fill out my FAFSA they tell me I am using an unsupported browser. Please help!!

It sounds like firefox is not supported, so you will need to use Internet Explorer for this task. Be sure the program is updated, as IE also handles security functions....

An update was done but when I tried to restart my Firefox the update was not able to complete the update.

Reboot the computer and try again. If the problem continues, go to the Mozilla website and locate the update issues for your version. I recommend using Google Chrome than Firefox.
