Newly installed white-rodgers zone valve works for a while then eventually moves to manual (or open) on its own. Suggestions on how to keep valve in a closed position? Chris in Alaska

Please check the link for troubleshooting:
2 wire zone valve: http://www.white-rodgers.com/wrdhom/pdfs/06_Cat_pages/Cat_06_pg0299.pdf
3 wire zone valve: http://www.white-rodgers.com/wrdhom/pdfs/06_Cat_pages/Cat_06_pg0298.pdf

If the valve fail the test you must change the motor head.
Also chcek the wiring of your thermostat to the zone valve.

I hope this information help. :)

This problem has to be in the way the valve was wired. Wrong zone valve-Normally open instead of normally closed-power interuption causing valve to open. Faulty T-stat/ Most likely wired incorrectly.

Thank you for your interest with Emerson White Rodgers. My Name is Joselito Laxamana from technical department. Make sure to connect a thermostat that will power open and powered closed the zone valve. I pretty sure that the two wire thermostat that your going to connect will not be compatible. White rodgers zone valve will not shut off by thermostat. you can shut off heat manually.

if this is a 13a zone valve it will have the wires in the front with a bunch of little holes for the wires. try to push each wire into there holes because sometimes they come loose and stop the valve from opening and closing. let me know how this works for you.

  • Hi, This is a good stat and I have used it alot in the past as it is a older model. If you have 24 volt control voltage at the stat, and the battires are good, then you have a malfuntion in the ciruitry and will need to replace it. I have sent you a ton of manuals on there products I thiught they may be helpful. Please dont forget to rate this post as I know you will be kind. I hope I have been of help to you.

Burner lites but goes out after 2 or 3 min.

the white rodgers gas control needs to be replaced;
the way it works is: the thermocouple opens the pilot gas circuit and, holds it open
when it heats up by creating a magnetic field in the gas control then: when you turn
the knob on the gas control to "on" a valve inside the gas valve opens the main gas circuit and, electricity supplied by your RV keeps it open.
the main gas coil inside the gas valve is defective and, can not hold the main gas circuit to the burner open anymore.

Replacing WHITE-RODGERS manual thermostat with 3 wires ( red, white, blue and installing Honeywell electronic thermostat RTH110B, how do I connect it? The heating is not central, baseboard heating.

I have only seen one Honeywell thermostat that would work with a 3-wire heating system.

I would replace it with a White-Rodgers 1F80-0471. They are about $100, but they are a good thermostat, and they work well with the 3-wire zone valves.

Most other thermostats have the "Y" terminal that you need, but do not control the zone valve correctly.

3 wire white rogers zone valve operated by 2 wire thermostat any one have a wiring diagram?

It is technically possible use a 2-wire thermostat with a 3-wire zone valve, but you need a single pole, double throw relay like a fan control relay with one normally open switch and one normally closed switch. 2-wire thermostats only have one switch that is normally open. 3-wire thermostats have two switches......one switch that is normally open, and one switch that is normally closed. The fan relay lets the 2-wire thermostat simulate a 3-wire thermostat. It's possible, but usually it's easier to just get a 3-wire thermosts.
