Question about Viper Security and Remote Start System (basic install included)

1 Answer

Viper remote stopped working!

I have a Viper alarm/remote start on my car. Out of nowhere my car stopped responding to my remote. When I hit the unlock button on my remote, I can see the picture in the top left corner showing that it is transmitting a signal but nothing is happening to the car. It won't unlock or unarm the alarm, it won't remote start my car either. I was playing with the remote today trying to see if it would work and I hit the black P button on the back, the remote beeped and three squiggly black lines showed up behind the car on the picture. Nothing happened to my car though. I read on here that those squiggly lines indicate that my car is started, but I've never seen them before. When I remote start my car I always saw a puff of smoke out of the exhaust on the remote picture. What is wrong with my remote and how can I get in/start my car?!?

First things first. Check the fuse that powers your alarm system. If that seems to be ok then try the next simple option. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable. Then turn the ignition to the start position for approximately three minutes. This will allow for any remaining energy to dissipate from your system. Now you can reconnect the negative cable. *** Before trying your alarm *** turn the ignition on and off 3 times quickly. Make sure you don't start the vehicle. Now you can exit the vehicle and try your alarm. FYI you can always stop at a nearby Best Buy store for additional assistance. They are usually very helpful. Good luck and best regards, Rico...

Just bought a`used truck that came with a Viper RPN 479VPC remote. Is this just a car alarm or is this a remote start also? Any help? Little blue remote with car diagram on screen...has lock, unlock, aux,...

That remote can work with both a security system, and a combo unit security/starter.

Best bet is to take the vehicle and remote to your local Viper dealer and they can look the car over and tell you what was installed and help you learn how to use it.

Viper 4806v won't program I am trying to install a viper 4806v two-way remote start/keyless entry in my automatic 2004 toyota camry LE 4cyl. I got the lock/unlock, horn, lights to work, and trunk pop to work. I can't seem to get the remote start to work. When I press the remote start button on the remote keypad, the car does not start and the headlights flash 7 times. Troubleshooting says 7 flashes mean a manual transmission mode error. This means I have to enter programming menu 3 and change the starter to automatic mode. When I follow the directions to get to menu 3, nothing happens because I cannot get to menu 3 when I hold down the control button after turning the ignition off. In other words, the control button is not working. The neutral switch is on like it is supposed to be. Kind of bummed about this. Could use some guidance. My wiring goes accordingly and this car does not have an immobilizer because I used a regular metal key to start it. This car has no alarm, just a stock keyless entry, trunk release, and panic button. Again, the problem is :The remote start comes in default manual transmission mode so I have to switch it to automatic transmission mode but I can't seem to enter programming. When I try to enter programming with the procedure followed using the control button, nothing happens. It does not chirp and the LED does not blink. I also cannot enter valet mode using the control button. When the car is locked, the LED blinks and stop blinking if car is unlocked ignition is turned on. I do not understand what is going on.
