i recently built a computer for my mom, and it was about a year ago. But it has been working ever since but now it wont power on. i have tried replacing the power box but that wasnt it cause the other one i got had a light on the back of it and so i know that is getting power. I tried replacing the power switch and that didnt work and i took everything apart and cleaned it with the can of air and that didnt work any suggestions?

- the power transistor is the power box right? if so i did replace that. and where can i find a multi tester i am new to all this i am still in school for all this. can you elaborate a lil more
If your motherboard doesnt have any sound coming from it.it is blackout already.what i have tried to my motherboard is to solder and replace the power transistor sometimes started the code K3296.One of those has deffective status.you need to find it by using multi-tester.I hope i can help you with this.

- it is not a power box. It is the component parts near the keyboard socket.if you are new to troubleshooting you cant do that soldering the parts. You will need hot air soldering to remove the surface mounted parts.if you cant do this, you need to replace new motherboard.

I had this problem once and found that I had a short in one of the drives. It would trip a circut breaker in the power supply. Thus I could never get it to power up. I unplugged all of the drives, then plugged them back in one at a time to isolate the bad drive. (rebooted each time starting with only the hard drive.) I'm not saying that this is your problem, but it may be something that simple. This was after I tried replacing the power supply and found I still had the problem. Hope this helps.
