Question about Washing Machines

Today I replaced the motor in my Maytag Neptune dryer (model # MDE3000AYW). However, it seems to be running a little noisier than it did before. Could it be that I did not place the belt properly on the drum that's causing it to run rough? what els could be causing the problem?

I thought a second opinion would be good so that if there are other things I should look for while the dryer is disassembled I could do it all at once.

Thanks for your help. When you say check the alignment of everything, do you mean the motor and the drum? Or is there more I should check?

  • Guest Sep 13, 2009

Thanks. Turns out I didn't have the drum seated properly on the front rests. Once I placed it properly on those front pads, my problem went away. The dryer is as quiet as it was when it was new. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks Lucky99Star! My problem is resolved. Turns out I didn't have the drum properly placed on the front pads. Once I corrected that, not only did the dryer go back together much easier, but it runs as quietly as it did when it was new. Thanks again for your help.

The first thing to check is that your belt is not worn excessively, while you are back in it verify that everything is properly aligned and last but not least that everything is tight. But what I think you will find is your alignment is off not by much but it is out by maybe 1/4" or so... good luck

No the belt simpley slots in it could be noisy due to the mounts worn on the motor or it isnt tight enough on the surface or it could be the drum bearing going as it make a wooshing noise check these things buddy

Hi,
This is probably the drive belt slipping on the drum or motor. If you take the top off the machine, you may be able to look inside while it is running (keep clear of the electrics and do not delve inside while the machine in this state) and see the belt slipping.
Thanks
Smith.

If it only runs with start button held in then you have a problem with the door switch. Check to be sure the wires are on it. Here is the switch to order in case it is bad.

Maytag MDE3000ayw. When I press the start button, there is a humming sound, but it won't start. Is this likely a problem with the start button, or the motor? The belt is fine.

It's not the start button if it responds to the button. Make sure the motor spins freely. If so, make sure you have voltage going to the motor. If so, check the start capacitor (if equipped) Good luck.

Just brougth used maytag neptune dryer.model MDE3000AYW

If you are connecting a power cord with a 3-wire configuration, you match the corresponding wire colors from the power cord to the wires on the terminal block in the back of the dryer. The correct color-code is as follows:

RED - HOT (120VAC)
BLACK - HOT (120VAC)
WHITE - NEUTRAL (0VAC)*

*There should be a ground strap or ground wire connected to neutral at the terminal block in a 3-wire configuration.

NOTE: If the wires are not color-coded, the outer two wires (Left and Right) are the HOT leads. The center conductor is Neutral.

If you have any questions, you can refer to this link for further explanation:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575913-installing_a_220_vac_appliance_cord

This explains the difference in 4-wire and 3-wire configurations. I hope this helps you.

- very loud squeaking sound

Hello JewettKann,

Typically, on the Maytag Neptune dryers, it is the felt gasket that is the cause and source of the noise you're hearing.

There is a felt gasket that runs all around the front and rear of the dryer drum and cabinet door edge (on the backside lip). As the dryer ages, this felt wears out and needs to be replaced to prevent the awful screeching sounds you'll experience, once the metal to metal contact becomes constant.

You can view the parts that need replacing at the following link (Item #17B on the drawing) Called a sound damper pad on some models.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=MDE4000AZW&productCategoryId=0151200&brandId=3048&brandDescription=MAYTAG&modelName=MAYTAG-LAUNDRY&diagramPageId=00004&componentDescription=DOOR&documentId=M0402169&blt=06

This was a fairly common problem with the Neptune line. You can see for yourself by simply turning the drum with your hand and feeling and listening for the rubbing/grinding noise, along the top of the door opening.
If you can get the complete model number off your dryer, you can select the exact line drawing and parts list at the link below to make sure you're looking at your exact model.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Maytag neptune dryer making load noise seems unbalanced

Sounds more like the dryer drum seal is deteriorating.
If the dryer tumbles the belt is intact.
To access the belt.
Open the door.
Remove 4 screws on right and left side of the door opening.
Raise the door on the hinge side and remove it.
Pull the front panel forward and remove it.
From there you can see what to do next.

Neptune Dryer Time keeps going forever

your problem is most likely an issue with the start button. if it is stuck, the dryer will keep running even though it has passed the off position. your start switch probably needs replaced. Joe
