Question about Brother SE-270D Computerized Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Problem with my machine

I just purchased a used Brother PE-200 Snoopy machine. I get it all set up to embroidery and hit start. The machine whirrs a bit, the needle does nothing, then a message comes up that says "the thread may be tangled or the needle is bent". Neither the needle or the thread has even passed through the fabric at this point. I've threaded and re-threaded to make sure I have it right and neither is there a jam at the bobbin level - especially since the needle hasn't even passed through the fabric. The booklet with the machine says that this message indicates the motor is locked. Am I doing something wrong or does the machine actually need serviced? It was supposed to be in working order according to the seller.

Thanks for replying, This is a computerized embroidery machine and there are no controls other than an on/off switch and a start/stop button. Everything is computerized - I don't think there's anything belt driven in it. It's a mystery.

You can see a picture of it at this link:

    Thanks a lot for trying.

Thanks again for you help. I tried holding the balance wheel as you said but it still doesn't work. And as you said, no way am I gonna open the machine. I'm taking it to our Brother service center and let them check it out. They said it could take a couple of days to service it - so I'll let you know what they find.

Thanks again for your attention to my problem! :o)

Hello, I'm back with the repair results on my Brother embroidery machine. You were correct - it was the belt. Apparently it came off during delivery - the package was badly damaged and the technician said rough handling during transport could have dislodged the belt. It works great now. Thanks again for your assistance.

Where can I purchase a repair manual or something to help me adjust the timing on my Brother PE 150 Embroidery machine? It is getting expensive taking it to the shop everytime after it gets hung up. All...

You will have a hard time finding a repair manual but try e-bay, that model along with the pe-200 has always had issues with timing being thrown out or the needle bar coming loose i would consider a new machine check out the IN-1200

Connecting to a computer

Are you asking how to connect the Brother PE-400D sewing machine?  You have "how to connect the '4000D' to a computer and what risk if any".  Which machine are you asking about - these are two different sewing machines.  If you are inquiring about the Brother PE 400-D, then your answer is... this machine is NOT capable of being connected to a computer.  However, if you wish to purchase or download embroidery designs from the internet, you may look into purchasing the Brother PE Basic. This allows you to download embroidery designs from the internet to your computer hard drive and then load them on to a Brother memory card.  The Brother memory card can then be slipped into the proper slot for the memory card on the sewing machine.  You will need to purchase embroider designs that are in the PES format for you Brother machine to read it.  Hope this helps!
