Sndrglltt27,
try draining below elec cord, use 100% silicone to plug hole, it will take 24hours +/- to dry.

How do I take apart model PES-80-PW

nothing to take apart on this one it's a mag drive pump , if somehow the housing requires cleaning , backflushing down the outlet pipe is about the only way to do it , unit is sealed otherwise

mag drive means that a magnet is used to couple pump to motor so a direct connection is not needed so no drive shaft seals to fail , mag drives should never never be run dry with low to no water in pond , they use the water for cooling and will fail beyond repair if allowed to melt

When the pump is running water runs from under the base plate.

Hi,
The bearing seal between the pump and the motor has gone bad...they are replaceable but it is a time consuming job that probably will not work for you the first time...you also will probably destroy the impeller when changing the seal...

Find a pro that has done this before and have them change the seal for you...

Pondmaster Mag Pump 1200 gpm has electrical short. When the cord at the pump is moved the pump goes off and on. Can I repair this? (i.e. can I get into the water tight case?)

You can get into the case ok but this is probally in the cord and getting that free from the caseing is the trick and then getting it back together so it won't leak is yet another. after some thirty years in the buisness I've found that due to exposure to the elements the cord you pull into the seal and the cord seal it self will not hold water for more than a few months and new parts wait time and aggrevation make replacement an option. But if it sounds like I'm saying don't try this, I'm not. What I am saying is if you try to fix it and it dosen't work don't feel bad, your not out anything but your time. If it works you win. When you take apart the back of pump you will find a rubber seal as you will find a comperssion seal around the cord. First usins a fine wet and dry sandpaper roughen the cord outside the pump and the rubber seal at the rear plate do not lube these. Pull some new cord through tighten compression seal at cord trim cord and rewire pump past weak spot caused by pump housing reset back plate tightening evenly and firmly but not so tight as to cause plate to warp. then tie off cord to some place on pump so if some one pulls on pump it isn't pulling on cord at houseing.

I have a jacuzzi magnum 1500 pool pump which leaks. I changed the O-ring and it still leaks. If I have to change the seal on it, how do I change it. I tried undoing everything on this pump. Thanks!

You need a 201 seal for the pump. Most electric motor shops that work on pumps and of course pool store carry these. If you are unfamiliar with how to change the seal, the charges to have it done are usually low. We charge $15 - $30 depending on how much of the pump is brought in and therefore remains to be taken apart to replace the seal. The seal is about a $5 item.

If trying yourself, you will need to completely disassemble the pump, lock the motor shaft at the rear of the unit, spin off the impeller, and replace both halfs of the seal.

Drive systems difference

Magnetic Drive: In a magnetic-drive pump, an electrical charge creates a magnetic field that causes the magnet on the impeller to rotate and pump water. Magnetic drive pumps are completely sealed and do not require lubrication. Because they do not contain oil, magnetic drive pumps are safer for ponds with fish as oil leaks do not occur. This type of pump does not generate high head heights, meaning it is unable to lift pond water vertically, which you might need to supply water to a fountain. Work best in cleaner environments with little or no debris Highly efficient, cost-effective operation Since they have no seals to wear out, they require little maintenance Occasionally clean the impeller and its chamber to ensure efficient operation Direct Drive: Direct-drive pumps have an enclosed motor that is powered by electricity, which turns the impeller shaft. Direct-drive pumps achieve significant head height so they tend to work well for fountains or waterfalls. Some models seal the motor in an oil-filled shell with seals around the cord and impeller shaft. These are risky to use if you have a pond stocked with fish as there is an ever-present danger of water contamination if a leak occurs. Many newer pumps, however, feature alternative lubrication over oil that is safe for fish. Look for oil-free models if you house fish or other aquatic life in your water garden. Typically more expensive to operate Ideal pump type for fountains or other accessories Pushes water rather than pulling it Not easily repaired by the user
