Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Scanner malfunction When I scan in a document, the left side is color perfect, but the right side only comes out red in color. Could it be a bulb is out?

I have the same problem! I used the MP780 for over a year, since then the problem occured. In the beginning I just had to use the calibration tool but later I had to clean the surface of the scanner, to avoid dust, but now the dust is on the backside of the glass-surface and so unreachable. So according to what I think, it's more a problem of dust than a mechinacal problem.

is it possible the color cartridge is empty? also when you print a document try it this way... press and hold the Crtl button and press "P". so it's "control P" now at the bottom of the left side menu screen you will see a "color" button select Color and then print.

I need to scan documents in jpg format. I notice there is an option to choose tif/jpg but I don't seem to be able to choose the jpg option it just keeps choosing tif. How can I scan in...

Everyone above has cut and pasted from the Ricoh manual, which as any tech will tell you is worthless. There is some other setting that must be set to force the "TIFF/JPG" to toggle - hence why no one has figured it out.

Load the item to scan You can scan from the scanner glass or from the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) tray, if your product has one. Make sure that the product is connected to the computer. Turn the product on. Load the picture or document: Scanner glass : Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass (usually on the right-front corner or the left-front corner). Close the scanner lid. ADF : Place the item into the document feeder tray. The printed side faces up and the top edge goes into the tray first. Adjust the width guides to fit the item. CAUTION:Do not load photos in the ADF. Use the scanner glass instead to prevent damage to photos. Use HP Scan to start a scan Use HP Scan to scan items and edit them to adjust resolution or color, crop, remove red eye, etc. To scan a picture or document, follow these steps: Open the HP Scan program in the Hewlett-Packard folder. From the Scan Profiles screen, click either Pictures ( ) or Documents ( ) . Click Profile Settings , and then adjust any settings in the Capture , Adjust , and Page Options (for documents) or Enhance (for pictures) tabs as appropriate. If you want to save these settings as a custom scan profile to use in the future, follow these steps: Click the drop-down list to the left of Profile Settings , and then click Duplicate Selected Profile . Type a name for the profile in the text box under the profile icon. The new profile saves under Custom Profiles. Click Scan . Make any desired changes to the scan preview by using the icons available in the toolbar and the Adjust window. NOTE: You can use + and ? buttons in the Bottom bar to add or delete pages in the OUTPUT list. You can reorder pages by dragging them to new positions in the Sidebar. Select a destination from the Toolbar: If you opened HP Scan from other software, and want to send the scan to that software, click Return . If you are ready to save, print, or send the scan to a specific destination, click Save , Print , or Send . NOTE: If you are saving the file, make sure to select the file format that you want.

Got a dark line down document when scanner via AFD

When you use the adf, the scanner remains stationary at the far left side of the platen. Check and make sure that the glass is very clean there; use a damp cloth to remove any dirt or other foreign material.

According to HP if the problem is only when you print from your PC or Mac then you need to reinstall the printer driver. If the problem is also when you print just from the printer, i.e. scanning or test page, then the problem is with the printer.

How Do Stop Scanner Bulb From Warming Up?

There are 3 possible causes to this problem.

First dirty scanner optics this causes scanner to unable to get to the home position. This step should be done first. You will need to remove the ADF assy, left, right covers, remove control panel, remove control panel base cover, remove 8 screws 4 on top and 4 under scanner assy ( One screw on each side of scannerie front, left, right, back) Then carefully remove the glass. You should now be able to see the scanner assy, you will need a small flat screwdriver to disengage the tabs holding the scanner cover in place. Clean all mirrors with DRY q-tip. Reassemble and test.

2nd After cleaning scanner optics still doesn't resolve problem next step is to replace scanner formatter. You will need to open left cover, and remove the 2 screws and remove the smaller left cover. The scanner formatter can now be seen.

If above steps do not resolve problem, replace the scanner assy.

Scanner not responsive. You can choose to have the document scanned to your PC but nothing happens and either location.

Hi, we need to check first if this issue is caused by the scanner it self or by the scanner driver. Please try the following to check if your scanner is physically functioning or not:

Basic Copying
1. Open the scanner lid.
2. Place your document face-down on the glass. Move your document about 0.1 inch from the top and side edge so your entire document is scanned.
3. Close the scanner lid.
4. Be sure the COPY button is lit. The default copy settings are displayed on the control panel.
5. Press the Color Copy button (for color copies) or B&W Copy button (for black and white copies). Your document is scanned and then printed.
Note: Depending on the copy settings chosen, your copied image size may not be the exact same size as your original.
If the image was successfully copied please uninstall the scanner driverm download the latest driver in and install it. Try scanning.

If the issue still present we will need to ensure the scanner is being recognized correctly. Have you had any other scanners installed on the computer previously? We would suggest checking the DEVICE MANAGER for any conflicts.

Get to the Device Manager by:
1. Right-Clicking on MY COMPUTER
2. Left-click on PROPERTIES.
3. Click on the HARDWARE tab, then DEVICE MANAGER.
In the Device Manager please for the following:
1. Any yellow or red X's, question marks or exclamation marks.
2. Under the Category of Imaging Devices - Check for Epson Product name.
If IMAGING DEVICES is listed, test the scanner from PAINT.

To scan in paint:
3. Choose COLOR PHOTO.
4. Scan.

It is also possible your Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is not started.

To start this process please follow the steps listed bellow.
1. Click on Start, go to Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel window you will Performance and Maintenance, please left click that option.
3. Next we are looking for Administrative Tools, please left click on that option.
4. We are looking for the Services icon please left on that icon.
5. In the Services window we are going to scroll down to the bottom and look for the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service, Please Right click it with your right mouse button.
6. We want to select the STOP option with your left mouse button.
7. Next we want to Right click on the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service again and select the START option with your Left mouse button please.

Scanning document leaves streak down right hand side

Even a single grain of dust or a single strand of hair on the scanning glass will cause the scan head to perceive ink/image where there is none. Deffinetly try cleaning the glass using a good window cleaner, and a cloth that is completely clean, or even a peice of newspaper. If the black line remains, I would suggest taking it into a service center to have the scan head itself cleaned.
