Yes windows XP will run on a Pavilion 7480.

After you install XP you may find that there are some devices that either didn't install or may need updated drivers.

You can check the status of the hardware in the pc by right clicking on My Computer, select Manage, and then click on device manager.

If you see a yellow exclamation point by and device listed in the Device manager window then you will need to update the driver for that particular item.

You can download the drivers from Hp.s website. Just go to the HP website and click on the Support & Drivers tab. A new windows will appear and you will need to select "Download drivers & software".

Once you select download drivers & software, click on the start detection button. You will get a message asking if you want to allow the installation of HP pc detection software; allow the install. When the install is finished, the app will automatically detect your hardware and take to you to the page you need to download the drivers and other software relevant to your pc.

Hope this helps!!

If you have enough memory XP should run fine. Compatability issues will be with external devices like printers, scanners, etc.

Free recovery disks for hp pavillion zd8000 with windows 7

As far as I know, the original zd8000 operating system is Windows XP. If you have Windows 7 installed, then you need to get Windows 7 disc and its product key. If you need the Windows XP reinstallation media, then you can use HP Windows XP reinstallation disc only (for example: HP Windows XP Professional with SP2 disc).

DVD player not working when trying to upgrade

Check for the compatability of the Driver for the DVD player. Sometimes the Driver for HP Pavillion wouldnt work when operating system is changed or upgraded. Visit HP website to check if there is a DVD player Driver which you can download for Windows 7. Good Luck.
