It is likely low on coolant or as some say "freon" that or the indoor fan motor has not run properly. let it thaw completely by shutting it off and just turning on your fan switch from auto to the on positon. if you begin to feel air flow eventually you need coolant added b/c you probably have a leak from the system being old

Also, check the evaporator coil (air handler coil ). If it is dirt, that tool will cause AC to ice up and prevents air to pulled through the coil which actuary causes the cooling effect.

Low temp setting and low fan speeds will permit the icing of the coils., so will a low refrigerant charge. Some people set the ac to cold cold and the fan to low thinking to just maintain a cool level all day. It is better to set the temp at a point of around 72 -74 degrees and set the fan at meduium to high. This gives the unit a chance. to cycle off and on periodically so it can defrost in the breaks. Icing is also an indication of a low refrigerant charge, but see if the fan temp settings help.do not have fan speed ontrols so you may have to call out a service tyech to chk the refrigerant charge.by all means, chk the condition of your air filters. Good Luck, Ned

Can you see the condition of the coil itself? If it is blocked this could be a cause for the frozen coils. Also, check the condition of the blades on the indoor fan. Dirt and dust accumulation on the blades reduces airflow.

I have a RUUD gas pack unit.....when you turn on the heat, the blower does not blow any air out of the vents while on "auto". If you put it on "on" it blows cold air out of the vents. What is wrong?

Sounds like the thermostat is hooked up wrong. If the ac doesnt work right its in the thermostat programming or the wiring. Hope this helps good luck

I have a new kenmore ac unit model 580.75101500 i bought about two weeks ago and installed last week. its been blowing ice cold as it should no problems until today. Now the ac turns on runs about 5...

Take it back or call Sears. A 2 week old unit should not do that. I'll assume the settings are right like set on AC Auto or Max cool and not just fan. Are the coils icing or were they icing behind the filter? If not, I think it may need to be serviced.

Air handler motor stopped working

Check the capacitor before you replace the motor. It's a common problem that's easily fixed. Make sure the fan rotates freely.

Not blowing cool air on my Ruud, 18 years old, outside unit.

If you have ice on the Line you are iced up. If coil is iced no air can get thru. Now First. Turn of ac and turn fan to on posotion. That will thaw unit. Let it run 45 minutes. That should do it. If the fan is not running you amy have a bad fan relay. One of the reason iced up unit is dirty evap, coil inside. Try to thaw it out first. You can clean the coil with a stool brush. Does not damage the coils. Good luck

Uotside unit blowing cool air but hot on the inside

It sounds like you have a unit called a heat pump. When a heat pump unit is in cooling mode the outside unit blows hot air and the inside unit blows cold air. If the outside unit is blowing cold then the indoor unit is most likely blowing room temperature or warm air. It sounds like the thermostat could be controlling incorrectly or you could have a failed reversing valve which is the device that switches the unit from heating to cooling mode.
