Use a computer that is connected to the Internet, then download and copy the drivers on to a CD or USB menory stick and install them on your computer.
You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop. This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model laptop are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link :- http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
you need the drivers for those devices marked with yellow --"yellow"ethernet
controller will not allow to access the web to download drivers to solve your problem--options are:- use the "original" driver disk that came with the laptop or download to another pc/laptop and transfer drivers using usb key.
on your inspiron 2200...
1) click "start", "run", and type "services.msc"
2) select "wireless zero" at the bottom and check if it set to "automatic"
3) make sure that "wireless zero" is set to "start"
4) turn on inspiron 2200 wireless switch
5) right click wireless icon near to your computer's system time
6) click "view available wireless networks"
7) check if your wireless name is visible
Go to "Device Manager" and look if any yellow or red alerts are being displayed next to any devices. To access the "Device Manager" go to the 'Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Computer Management" and select "Device Manager" located in the left side column. If there is an alert, double click on that device to determine the problem, i.e.… device not configured, cannot start this device, etc… It sounds like all your software drivers got blown away or can’t load. If that’s the case, try running diagnostics. Press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on. This will initiate a diagnostic routine to check your hardware. I will try. First, upgrade xp to xphome? I think XP home is not an upgrade from anything except maybe Win Me or 9x. As far as I understand it, XP home is the lowest flavor of Win that is currently being supported. That being said, Heres my idea.
I don't know the type of lap you have so I cant look for it myself but if you go to your manufactures web site you should be able to find updated drivers for your Laptop. Usually it can be found under the heading "support" or "downloads". They will ask for your model # and then provide you with a list of drivers and such. If you include your Make and Model# I can help further. But I bet you just the need to update the drivers.
