Question about Sony Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I'm planning on installing a system in my pick-up and I was hoping I could get a little assistance. I was planning on using a pair of 5'' McIntosh ms486 coaxial speakers (120w max 4 ohm)in the front doors , and a pair of Sony XS-6953 6x9 coaxial 3-way speakers in the rear (max input 140watts, rated 40W, 4 ohm). Along with these I have either an 8 or 10'' MTX Black Gold sub 4 0hm ( I think is a free air). To power these speakers I have a Sony XM-5064 (50w x 4) and a Sony XM-3546 (35w x 4) amp hooked up to a Sony XEC-1000 electronic crossover network. All of this stuff is from a system I had in my old car, but I believe this gear is good and usable, unfortunately I don't remember how it was set up, nor do I have info on the McIntosh speakers or the MTX sub. My questions are: 1.) Which amp should I use to power what speakers? Does the sub need 2 channels bridged? 2.) Can I use the free air sub as a free air (in a pickup) or can I build an enclosure for it , or do I need to buy new a enclosed sub? 3.) The directions for the XEC -1000 crossover network say to hook in preamps first to network, then go to subs, and then out to speakers, so the amps aren't wasting power boosting signals that won't make it to the speakers anyway. However the Crutchfield installation guides say to put the amps before the crossover. Which is correct? Or should I default to Sony instructions.

First of all use the larger output amp to power the sub. You can tell if its free-to-air if in the middle of the magnet there is a hole for "air" to flow freely. The advantage of free to air is they dont require much of an enclosure or next to none so you can mount it on a single piece of mdf wood and use the cab in the truck as an enclouse itself. I would bridge the amp for the sub to mono but be careful to tune so you dont "distort". Secondly the amp for the mid's shouldn't be bridged any maybe you could run the front and rear speakers off the same amp.. I would get an amp for rear and front speakers each and one for the sub. Your ouput rca's should goto the cross-over first then to the amp (sub) - then wired to your sub (mono) which is bridged. Ensure to tune your cross-over to lowest frequency for sub. Its easy to bridge an amp if its 4 channel.. looking at the speaker terminals it will look like ( + - + -) use the two outer most terminals to bridge to mono.

I need to change lamps in McIntosh MC7205 Amplifier

First off before you do it is a specific bulb custom sized. I cannot stress enough how important it is to use the correct bulbs for this application. If you go the cheapy way it will COST in the end. There is a reason for it. I recently had one someone brought in that used the incorrect bulbs and burned the blue to a horrible brown and blue away from the face as well as melted the face a little. Spend the extra and get the bulbs from McIntosh It was a three hundred dollar repair job. You will save by getting the correct bulbs and doing it yourself. I hope this helps pointing the way to save lots of later frustration.

I cannot pair my HFS001 cruiser with my evo.

If, at the moment you turn your carkit on, the sentence 'Pairing mode' isn't heard, press and hold the answer/end button for some 5 seconds, until you hear that announcent. Then, make your phone's bluetooth application search for new devices. After a little while, your car kit should appear on the phone' screen. Select it and make it connect. If a pairing code (or PIN, or passkey) is requested, enter '0000' (four zeros, without the quotes).

By the way, you can download your car kit's user manual from this location. There, you will find detailed informations on how to pair it with your new phone. Hope you find it useful, somehow. Anyway, please, let me know if you need further assistance.

How to block "0" for international calling and mobile calling in our office phone panasonic model no kx-t7730x

As was pointed out to me, you could take a screwdriver and pry the 0 key off the tone pads :-)

Panasonic systems restrict calls by tables called Toll Restriction (TRS). It's a complete section in the installation and programming manual. It involves setting tables, usually in the 302-306 area, then picking a class of service for the phone that acts on the numbers dialed.

In the simplest systems, the TA series, you have 20 restrictions per class 2-5 and one 80 entry exception table. It's a little tricky to set up in that a COS-2 extension has all the restrictions in COS-2 tables, but a COS-5 extension has all the restrictions in COS-2,3,4, and 5 :-)

Your Pana installer can do this fairly quickly, but if you plan on doing it yourself, please read the TRS examples carefully.

Adding 2 extra channels to pair a MC7205 with a MX119 pre/pro

Yes, you can connect the MX119 'Multi-Amp' output connection to the MC7205 using a 'Parallel' 25-pin cable. It will send Front_L/R/Center/Surround_L/R signals (5 total) to the MC7205, then use a separate pair of RCAs cable to connect the 2 back-surround signals to another 2-channel amp and you are all set.
