Question about Sunpentown WC-140 Wine Cooler

I have a mini fridge that has completely stopped running. The outlet into which it was plugged works just fine. It seems such a waste to throw it out - any ideas are appreciated!

There is no way to guess at the problem, you have to use a multimeter and troubleshoot the circuitry to find out which component had failed. Could be the thermostat

These are fairly basic items and as such the following componets could casue the unit not to run.

The thermostat could be faulty and the most likely culprit and relatively cheap to replace.
The compressor motor may be faulty - fairly unlikely but if so it is fairly expensive to replace

and that is about it.

It is also worth checking that if your model has a samll colling fan at the rear that it is not blocked or frozen. This just draws air ac ross the colling vanes but will mean that the unit could overheat and blow the thermal fuse, again, if your unit is fitted with one.

You can get a new unit at

I have a Galanz mini fridge model number #GL27S5- the fridge seems to run ok during the day. It shuts off at night everything in there is warm. How can I fix this?

Not trying to be smart but it sounds like the outlet it is plugged into might be controlled by the light switch. Switch off, fridge off. Just a thought.

Galaxy mini fridge stopped working

The thermostat, which is also an ON_OFF switch has failed (@ 99% probability).

No, the little fridge doesn't have a pressure switch to turn the compressor off when freon is low. And no, auto freon is the wrong kind and it wont work in the little fridge. The freon that your little fridge uses is the stuff that all the fuss has been about (with the ozone layer), so it is not sold to appliance owners but only to licensed techs.

If this is helpful I hope you'll take a sec to rate me. Thanks!

Hi, I have a Kenmore top freezer refrigerator model number 363.79567990. The freezer stopped working and I found out that I had to press the "Reset" button on the outlet while it was unplugged...

It sounds like you've plugged your fridge into a GFI (ground fault interrupter) outlet.

The National Electrical Code (NEC) article 210.8 A (6) says in dwelling units, only those outlets in a kitchen (I'm assuming your fridge is in the kitchen - right?) "where the receptacles are installed to serve the countertop surfaces" must be provide ground fault protection aka "GFI outlet". Unless your town, city, county or state has laws that supersede the NEC, you should have the outlet changed to a standard, grounded outlet to prevent the nuisance tripping you are experiencing when the cooling compressor is trying to start. A refrigerator is not a counter surface appliance, and therefore does not require GFI protection.

The other outlets are fed from this outlet, so when you connect the fridge to another outlet on the circuit, the same GFI plug trips again. When you replace the GFI plug with a "regular one, the GFI plug should be installed in another outlet to provide the GFI protection needed in the kitchen - as described in the NEC above. If you are not familiar with how to do this, please, call a licensed electrician to do this very important job for you. Be safe & be smart.

I hope this helps!

Fridge won't start up.

have you tried testing the plug. Has the fuse blown in it? try changing the plug to see, then if this doesn't work try a different power outlet.

Refrigerator keeps throwing receptacle switch plate

I'm assuming this is on a GFCI outlet? May be a problem with the outlet rather than the Fridge. I had an outlet that would do the same thing when it encountered loads. I replaced it and everything was fine.

Refridge stopped working after a power surge

First, check to see if the light comes on or if there is any fan, motor, or other sound coming from the appliance? If so, the refrigerator isn't really completely stopped--go to the specific problem you are having. If not, try adjusting the thermostat to a colder setting. If that doesn't work, read on.

Second, check to see if there is power getting to the refrigerator. To do that, plug a lamp or other device into the same outlet the refrigerator is plugged into. If there's no power, check the fuses or circuit breakers. If the fuses or breakers aren't the problem, contact a qualified electrician to restore power to the outlet.

If there is power to the appliance but it still seems to be stopped, there may be a problem in one or more of these:

  • Wiring

  • Thermostat

  • Defrost timer

  • Compressor

  • Overload and/or relay

Fridge has been working great then this morning no power.

try plugging your refrig into a different outlet, or plug something else into the outlet the refrig is plugged into to verify power to the outlet.

Drum wont empty...have checked pump, seems to be working becasue some water is being pumped out..have checked filetr to pump and removed a couple of small buttons..outlet hose seems fine because initial...

It obviously is related to the pump and outlet hoses.
If it is a tap in waste then check for obstruction there,
Remove drain hose completely and run water though it to make sure it is fully clear.
Check inside the pump itself for any obstruction , if you are satisfied that every thing is o/k, then as a last resort, fit new pump.
Plz leave feedback for this solution.
Thanks.
