Question about Televison & Video
I have a rca 27v414t. the problem is it won't turn on. It was on then shut off and won't turn back on. the red light flashes but doesn't get any picture to it. It does make a noise sometimes when I turn it on. There is no picture at all. It is almost a new tv. used only for little over a year. It did this once before but when it was left alone for awhile , it did turn back on like normal. When it does work, everything is normal, picture is great, no problems. Any idea what could be wrong. I unplugged and plugged it in a few times but nothing happens. It does make a noise at times when I try to turn it on but nothing happens. When the red light flashes, it stays on but then we can'tturn it off by the remote or button. Have to unplug it.
Any malfunction associated with a flashing light usually indicates a
circuit problem or defective component. Unfortunately, the days of
taking off the back cover of your TV and replacing a defective tube or
fuse are long gone. Proper servicing will require troubleshooting
procedures that can only be performed by a qualified electronic repair
facility or professional television repair person. Ask for an estimate
and a realistic appraisal of whether the set can be adequately fixed.
Depending on the age and condition of your TV it may not be cost
effective to repair.

After replacing the flyback transforer and horizontal synch transistor you will need to adjust the flyback transofrmer as follows:
Turn each setting to just above mid point clockwise, turn the tv on and you should see a white screen with retrace lines in it just before the tv turns back off. set yourself up with a plastic screw driver and prepare for adjusting the focus(top adjustment) turn the tv on and adjust the focus by looking at the pixels on the screen. repeat as needed to complete.
Next setup for the brightness (lower adjustment) turn the tv on and adjust the brightness to where the screen appears to be black(no haze or lines). After the tv turns off wait a few seconds and turnit back on, it should stay on, if not then the brightness setting it too far one way or the other and "TecniklyNuts" it correct, the system detects the setting out of range and turns the tv off. Repeat the two adjustments until the system stays on.
