Another application is controlling the wireless adapter

I believe you are using WINDOWS XP.
In case of windows XP, there might be 2 different wireless utilities can control your wireless adapter.
First utility is the manufacturer's utility. If you have Dell wireless adapter then you can use Dell utility to connect to the network.
Another utility is Window's utility. You are getting the error message in this utility because your computer is using another utility.
To use window's utility you will need to start the " wireless zero configuration ".

Belkin router not giving signal to linksys adapter HELP!!!!!

I dont think belkin has a stable driver for win.7 at this time. I have a belkin n router with a belkin adapter and had no luck.
Some people have had some success using a Vista driver.
You could go to and download a win 7 driver there. They show a 48% success rate.

Wireless Network working on laptop, lost internet on desktop.

If you disconnect the desktop from the modem, were you able to get an Internet connection in your laptop?
In order to get Internet connectivity on your desktop at the same time with the laptop, then the desktop needs to be connected to the router. It should be connected to one of the Ethernet ports at the back of the router. Since, your desktop doesn't have an Ethernet port, then you need to connect a USB to Ethernet adapter to your desktop. Then from that adapter, you will connect to it an Ethernet cable going to the router.

You may check the following models:
Linksys USB200M
Linksys USB100TX
Belkin Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter(F5D5055)
D-Link DUB-E100

There are other brands that offer USB to Ethernet adapters that you can check.

Hope this helps!

USB adapter

You can try using the WZC (wireless zero configuration) utility instead of the linksys utility. Just right click the icon and select "use windows to configure my wireless settings".

You can also check for wireless interfence that could be blocking the connection of your wireless computer to the router. Try changing the channel of the router and make sure that the wireless settings are personalized.

If all those failed, you can try updating the driver on your wireless adapter and the router's firmware.

If you have any other problems, just click on ask me and ill answer it as soon as I can.

Wireless internet/mac/pc boot

If you cannot find any wireless driver on your Win XP then you do not have a wireless connection on this computer...Most commond problem if you have a built-in wireless adapter, the wireless switch is turn off, you can turn it on by switch the on-off panel on the side of the laptop or for some you need to press a key combination. (i.e. Fn+F2)

I can't get my new Vista computer to connect to my wireless network

I experienced a similar problem with a Vista laptop a few weeks ago. There were no apparent problems, so I uninstalled the wireless network adapter from the Windows "device manager" and then let it automatically reinstall the wireless adapter when it rebooted. The local wireless network appeared about 5 minutes after the reboot and has been working ever since.

If that doesn't help, try removing the Linksys software from your computer and try the network adapter remove/reinstall again.
