Please help, got something that is infecting my computer but no scanners can detect it, i'm trying to run malwarebytes antimalware, but when you hit start scan the program just closes, there is an infection on my computer that is preventing scanners from running, however i can get online and browse the web, but when i use google to do a search for something, it brings up the results but when i click on the result i get redirected to something else, totally non related... i have checked device manager for non plug and play devices and there is no TDSS in the list, someone online said to check for that, tried renaming the malwarebytes executable and that doesn't work either the program still shuts down... i have ran process explorer to see whats all running for active processes but nothing suspicious is listed even under explorer.exe... . please help as i don't want to restore my whole computer, too much work and don't want to lose data... i just want to get rid of this nasty bug and get my computer working normally again... thank you so much

yes i have tried this, it shuts down the program when i began to scan, i have tried running malware bytes antimalware, tried running spybot, when you click on start scan on either program, the program just closes and you can't scan, then when you try and open the program again it gives you an error about something to do with you don't have proper permissions.... this infection is something i have never seen before, i'm downloading the fsecure online scanner right now and trying to run that to see if anything happens, but is there anything else i can do to get rid of this darn thing... thank you

Do you still remember when the computer started to act like this? Do you remember any program that you installed before it happens? If you do, the only thing that I could think of is to perform a System Restore.

Doing a system restore would erase the program that you installed or run and that should fix the problem.

To do this, please follow the steps below:

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

NOTE: Performing a system restore would allow you to select the date that you would like. All programs that were installed beyond that date would be erased.

I know that this would help you. Have a great day!

Have you tried running your scanning software from Safe Mode?

Posted on Sep 13, 2009

  • Superbovine Sep 13, 2009

If your scanning software is up to date and not finding anything in Safe Mode, it may be registry settings that have been changed creating this problem.

Have you tried running a System Restore back 2-3 days before this started?

  • Superbovine Sep 13, 2009

Wow, that's bad news. System restore should not effect your performance to any appreciable degree.

The only thing you can do at this point is make a list of your running processes to evaluate what might be suspect, and make a list of all applications being run at startup.

You can find your startup applications by clicking Start, Run, then typing MSCONFIG and hitting enter.
On the window that pops up, click the "Startup" tab and make a list of the items.

Your best running the scans in safe mode ( F8) also turn off your system restore when you scan, you can turn it back on when the scans finish.

It contains good virus removal utilities for free and Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool is the best download it for free.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

It is also a good software that can detect and remove malware that even the most well known anti-virus and anti-malware applications fail to detect.

SuperAntiSpyware - http://www.filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/

Detect and Remove Spyware, Adware, Malware, Trojans, Dialers, Worms, KeyLoggers, HiJackers, Parasites, Rootkits, Rogue Security Products and many other types of threats.

Windows Defender - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=435bfce7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en#Requirements

Windows Defender is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software.

Microsoft Security Essentials - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=e1605e70-9649-4a87-8532-33d813687a7f#Requirements

Husband's computer infected with "Antivirus Live"

Go to www.malwarebytes.org and download their anti-malware program. Put the program on a USB driver and then boot up the infected computer into "Safe Mode" by repeatedly pressing F8 during the intital boot up sequence. You'll be prompted to with a menu to start windows. Select Safe Mode and follow the prompts. Once started, insert the USB device and run the malwarebytes program. It should remove the worst of the problem and then once you're able to boot up normally, run a thorough scan with your antivirus software as well.

Sony Vaio VGN-FZ320E is inundated with viruses, only operates in safe mode, will not accept new virus protection, and I have no Vista recovery disc. How can I download one, or will I have to wipe it...

Just sharing this,

Try to inquire on sony support. If you can have the recovery cd, usually they will charge for shipping. Have it and your hand its better you have a good fall back to restore your lap on factory settings.

But for your virus infection. You have at least a chance to purge that out of your system since you can boot on safe mode.

You can try to use combo disinfection. Like ;

1. AVG
2. Ad-aware
3. Superantispyware
4. Malwarebytes antimalware
5. Easy cleaner
6. Avast
7. Combofix
8. Mcaffee Stinger

Use combofix on safe mode but this could also do some corruption on your system this is for the last resort if ever.

Try to look for antivirus that can run on safe mode on the list, and do some research how it works best. And also try to backup your important files and installation files first before running the antiviruses. And also run antivirus one at a time. Then try to record what virus hits you.

This maybe an overkill. The reason is you don't know what virus infects you then try this antivirus who can distinguish it and run on safemode. The reason I sharing this is it will just infect you easily again even you restore it to factory installation. " Prevention is better than cure".

If ever you disinfect the virus using this, then pick one antivirus that disinfect this infection and uninstall the other. I also recommend Malwarebytes antimalware on the system together with one antivirus.

Goodluck
