Question about Acer Extensa 5420-5687 Notebook

I had no idea when I purchased this laptop that I would have this problem. The Acer will start up for about an hour and then cut off. What are we supposed to do? I thought we didn't have to keep inferior products without some of sort retaliation. If enough of use complain, maybe they will rectify the problem. Then again, they got our money, so what do they care? Next time I will purchase a Dell.

Your battery is bad. Remove the battery and just plug the laptop in. Purchase a new battery and you should be good to go.

I agree with the retaliation...where do I sign? ; )

Depending upon the age of your battery and your own charge habits, your battery may be on its way out. This is a long shot but take out the battery and leave it a couple of hours then replace and place it on charge overnight then retry next day, you have maybe already tried that, the only other thing I can think of is get a multimeter or someone who knows how to use one and check that the voltage is kicking out 19v DC from the charger

That's impossible not to have an Instruction manual, you would need to get back to the shop you purchased it and get your manual or check www.acer.com to download the manual, its in a pdf format, you would need Adobe Reader 9 to be able to view it.

Problem with charging my acer aspire 5580


Hi,

The DC in socket where you plug the charger into the laptop needs reseating and glueing into place.

Get an engineer to do it, sooner rather than later as it is possible for the laptop to short out and time and this may do serious damage to your mainboard......no need for a new mainboard, just get them to repair it...its common on Acer products.

1 hour job @ £60.00 an hour approx - UK rates.

I would suspect that the cmos battery is almost flat or mobo fault, to replace a cmos battery requires a competent Technician to dismantle entire laptop.

I bought a new battery, laptop won't boot


The new battery is defective - It needs to be repacked. If you're still close enough to date or purchase(even for an ebay purchase), you should be able to do a swap.
