Question about Video Game Consoles & Games
This is commonly referred to as the RRoD - Red Ring Of Death. Googling RRoD will give you a multitude of sites/fixes etc. Basically - it is a hardening of the cheapo thermal compound Microsoft used on the games processor. A Self-fix would require dismantling the unit - removing the heatsing for the processor, cleaning the thermal compound, and replacing the compound, and then putting it all back together. Cracking the 360 case is pretty tricky. There are hidden screws and the like. There are many video how-tos on YouTube if you are considering repairing it yourself. Microsoft repairs consoles for $150 and it will be out about 4 weeks. Contact Microsoft to get it repaired, find a local repairman (craigslist is a good place to start - look to spend $40-$50) or research Youtube for a video tutorial on doing it yourself. Thanks for using FixYa!!
