Question about Polaris 380 In Ground Pool Cleaner

2 Answers

Polaris is not sucking up pool debris, also the back up valve is not cycling, it's continously on and the wheel rotation is below 28rpm. I've checked the booster pump discharge valve and it's open, I've removed the blue restrictor and cleaned all the filters.

If the back-up valve is not cyceling this could definitely be the problem. Replace your Back Up-Valve. Also, check the hoses and swivels for leaks. .

Check the impeller on the booster pump, it's possible some debris may have clogged it. You'll need to take the booster pump apart. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, call a service tech.

1. Check the wheel RPM. If not in the 30-36 RPM range, refer to the manual for adjusting the wheel RPM.

2. Adjust the thrust jet downward.

3. Verify the backup valve is cycling. Lift the valve out of the water and watch the jet. It should come on and go off.

4. Check for water inside the head float.

5. Empty the filter bag.

You can download the 3900 Manual from the Polaris site

My Polaris 3900 that I bought today is not moving fast enough. There is no blue restrictor cap in the wall.

Check your filter, pump, and debris baskets for excessive waste that could decrease the pool cleaners water flow. Check the hoses, hose connections, and swivels for leaks that could cause loss of water pressure. Check your wheel RPM. If it is below 30, you will need to incease the water pressure. If you have an adjustable return valve, make sure it is open all the way. Also, make sure that your pump is working properly.

My polaris 3900 moves across the pool with the front wheel of the bottom, the wheel on the 1 wheel side and the back wheel are on the bottom.

Check your wheel RPM. If the pool cleaners RPM is over 32, reduce the water flow so that the cleaner makes proper contact with the pool's surface. Verify the back-up valve is cycling. Lift the valve out of
the water and watch the jet. It should come on and go off. You might also need to adjust your thrust jet if it is causing the cleaner to lean too far to one side.

Back-up valve is not working properly. Can I take

With these pool cleaners, if they are not backing up, there are several things that you could try. Lift the valve out of the water and watch the jet. It should be going on and off. If it is not, you will need to replace the back up valve. If it appears to be working properly, try adjusting your wheel RPM.

Wheels are not turning. water is spraying from back up valve continually so not enough pressure to put machine into action

If the pool cleaner is not running properly (too slowly or not at all), you will want to check the following things. Make sure that your wheel RPM is not less than 30. If it is, you will need to adjust the wheel RPM to make the cleaner have enough power to move properly. First check your filter screen and the debris baskets in your pump, filter, and skimmer. They could have a blockage that is causing the loss of power. Next, if you have an adjustable valve on the cleaner line, open it completely so water can flow freely to the cleaner. If that does not work, remove the blue restrictor disk from the UWF. Also, check the hoses, hose connections, and swivels for leaks that could cause loss of water pressure. If you think that it is simply your backup valve that is malfunctioning, you might need to replace it. The backup valve kit is part number G52.

Polaris vac doesnt reverse . which way is it supposd to be running, watr fow away from vac or towards vac?

When these pool cleaners are not reversing, there are several things that you need to check.
  1. Make sure that the back up valve is cycling (it should move in multiple directions).
  2. Check the wheel RPM and make sure that it is between 28-32.
  3. Make sure that the debris bag is empty.
  4. Check to see if the head float has water in it. If it does, replace it.
  5. Make sure that the feed hose is floating.

Polaris in pool cleaner back water single spout not water passing

Check your wheel RPM. With these automatic pool cleaners, you can manually adjust the RPM. Low RPM could be the cause of the problem. To check the RPM, first mark a single wheel side tire, Turn the pump on, hold the cleaner under water and count the wheel revolutions for one minute. If the RPM is less than 28, you might need to remove the blue restrictor disk from the UWF or adjust the gate valve on the booster pump. Also, this may sound simple, but make sure there is no debris lodged in the wheels/axles. Check your filter screen in your in-line filter and make sure that it is clear of debris. You will also want to check your hoses, connections, and swivel to make sure that there are no leaks.
