Nikon D50 -flash won't fire

Have just purchase a secondhand Nikon D50 but the built in flash will not fire in any mode. Through the view finder the flash ready indicator shows ready. Do the flash bulbs blow and if so can they be replaced or can you suggest any other reason. Thank you

Try pushing the flash forward just a tiny bit. this model of Nikon has a built in problem with the flash popping up too hard. You can also try to "soften" the pop-up action with your finger instead of just letting it snap up into position.

Nikon d50 monitor does not work during photo shooting, must use view finder

This is completely normal. The monitor is used for setting menu items, displaying shooting info, and reviewing images. Like SLR have functioned for over fifty years, you take pictures by composing and framing through the viewfinder. Only the most recent dSLRs have the Live View capability which allows you to use the monitor like a point&shoot camera.

Hi, I have a Nikon d50. My skills are very poor and I haven't used the camera in 4months. My problem is the picture veiwer is not on and i need to look thur the veiw rather than looking at the screen. Help

Digital SLR cameras are different from other point and shoot cameras, in that you have to look through the view finder, you can not use the LCD Display to frame your shot.

Hope this helps

Nikon D50, digital SLR, I was using my camera at a wedding and the flash just stopped working. The camera thinks the flash is going off - it pops up and takes them quickly but no light goes off.... do...

good day,

it seems that your built-in flash is busted. you can go to your nearest nikon service center and have it replaced. or you can purchase an external flash that you can attach to your unit. when looking an external flash better use a nikon flash, however if you are looking for other brands/manufacturers, just check if it is compatible with your unit.

i hope this will help

Nikon D50 flash not synchronizing

Ok this is a crappy fix but it works for me.

If your flash isn't syncing correctly make sure your on auto flash. when your flash flips up and you get the beep push the piece that holds the flash just a little forward. and walla your flash syncs up.

Sigma 170-500mm APO lens on Nikon D50 won't autofocus or shoot

When you get a flashing EE, it means there is an Eror somewhere. Most cameras have a botton you press to reset it. Usually it is the battery check button. Try that. Also try taking the lens off the camera, unlocking the aperture ring, remount the lens and then lock the aprture ring to the minimum F stop. I think this should solve the problem.

AF area mode problem

To answer your flash question...the Nikon flash system fires the flash when the camera thinks the picture will be too contrasty without the flash. You can Google for "fill flash" to learn more. This is usually beneficial; if not, holding the flash button and turning the main dial will cycle through flash options on the top screen.

Built in Flash

I have the same problem on my D50. I found this forum, which sounds like it may fix that problem. I am going to try it out. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=22761542

Flash out of sync

I just had mine fixed by nikon and it seems as though the problem would come back every now and then. my current solution is to switch over to Manual mode and turn AF assist, AF illumination, and ISO control to "ON" and then then shoot a few shots. Then switch metering to centerweight. take a few shots, it should work correctly, then switch back to AUTO. after that, the flash should fire as normal. I just received my body back about 2 weeks ago, so i hope my "bad batch" flash unit was replaced with a known good one. if not, i don't know what to do.
