Question about Televison & Video
If you have sound from your set using a VCR, the TV isn't at fault.
And I warn you, don't be too quick to dispose of your old Sony, I help those who have sets bought within the last year or two that are failing everywhere; these have sophisticated power supplies that demand very high quality components to function reliably and mfrs. are loath to spend the extra pennies and as a consequence, they are failing way too soon but often just after the warranty expires.
You just need to ferret out the right audio paths to complete your system if you find that the set works OK with a VCR or DVD player.
The conversion hasn't done any damage to your Sony, you are only not connected as you need to be.
