Question about Apple iBook G3 Clamshell (M2453B) Mac Notebook

1 Answer

Just bought a clamshell through Ebay, I plug it in and it still wont turn on. According to prior owner it has not had anything spilled on it or been dropped. She claimed it might be the battery, dont think it it. Hold switch is not activated, fan doesnt turn on - I checked a troubleshooting site and they mention possible logic board problems or bad click wheel connection. How do I check the click wheel?

If it won't come on at all, it's not a bad click wheel. If it won't turn on when it is plugged in, then it is not the battery. It is most likely the logic boad, or the processor. Either way, unless you are a wiz with computers, The **** shell ibook is one of the most difficult laptops to take apart. You can find detailed here:

They also have replacement parts sometimes.

I have replaced one of these logicboards before, so I know it can be done, but it is not for the faint of heart. Read the instructions first to make sure you're up to it.

Bought the phone from ebay, need the unclock key that allows the phone to become operational, it consists of four digits.

The default codes for wireless handsets are fairly simple. They will consist of all 0's, 1's 9's or a series of numbers like 1,2,3,4,5,6. That is if it is the default code, if it has been changed/altered by the prior user/owner, then it could be anything. If you are not able to break the code, you can always have the device flashed.

My back light wont work. I've reset all the settings and restored it. Nothing works. anything you can recommend?

Turn the brightness to max under settings. If that don't work then you got a dud. Take it back to the Apple shop and have them deal with it if your under the year warranty or 3 years if you bought an extended warranty. Backlight will go out if you spilled water on it or dropped it hard. Apple won't do sh.t for you if you dropped this thing or spilled water on it.

I just bought a used garmin and cannot get past the PIN - The prior owner said that he didn't use one, but it is locked. What can I do?

The prior owner lied to you, call Garmin. If you bought it on ebay file a paypal complaint asap as the unit was probably stolen.

Powers off when clamshell closed

this is an issue with these phones and requires that you go through the warranty exchange process with your cell provider. there isnt anything you can do on your end, except for that. if they wont do it, you can always contact the sony / ericsson and get an exchange through them. your provider AND sony, might try to make you purchase a new phone, if you are not eligible for an exchange.

That the earlier owner didn't know his own password is a bit suspicious. It sounds as if you do need to reformat. I suggest finding a OS system, maybe on Ebay or Craigs List.

I have had this same problem before and it happened after I spilled tea (with sugar), on my keyboard. It may be that the prior owner spilled something on the keyboard. This can be fixed by ordering a new keyboard (the plastic circuit board), that fits underneath the actual keyboard. They can be purchased through Dell or Ebay and take about 10 minutes to install.

Picture goes out frequently

You could have a very small crack in the main circuit board. To find this you'd have to pull the board and flex it slightly and/or use an insulated and non conducting object such as a plastic rod and tap the board all over until you find a sensitive place. You have to do this with the set turned on. If you're not experienced at this type of trouble shooting, you need to get a qualified tech to do it for you. These sets usually require the use of an isolation transformer to protect you for being shocked. Also you need to know how to work around high voltage circuits. There's several thousand volts on your picture tube. Also you need to make sure you don't cause a short when the board is out of it's holder and in operation. Be careful ! Stargazer
