Question about Maytag Dryers

Maytag gas dryer, model #MDG7600AWW does not turn on

I have a Maytag gas dryer, model #MDG7600AWW which is not turning on. There is a buzzing sound when you push the start button, but the motor does not kick in. I've pulled the thermal fuse, which tests as being shorted and I plan to order a replacement, but is there something else I should be checking in case there is more than one issue at play here?

Sorry that I posted this question without realizing that the thermal fuse SHOULD BE closed to be considered "good". What else can I check to resolve this issue? I've also checked that the door switch is operating properly.

A thermal fuse should read shorted until it gets hot .. the buzzing you hear might be the motor running but not turning the drum .. that would be a broken belt .. the motor is spring loaded to keep the belt tight ..the belt is long .. it goes around the drum and down to the motor ... belts are available at many appliance parts shops .. changing it is not hard for someone handy .. a bit more than you would want to handle if you are not mechanically inclined ... on some maytags the whole front of the dryer comes off with just two screws near the bottom .. that makes servicing much easier ..

if the motor buzzes but does not turn then you may have a bad starter capacitor on the motor ... make sure the drum turns freely but with some resistance as it turns the motor ... that will show that the belt is ok and the motor is not frozen ...

Maytag gas dryer. Loud buzzing sound when flame comes on. Buzzing stops when gas valve off. Replaced solenoids twice. Dryer works but the buzzing is annoying. Do I need to replace gas valve assembly?

While you are hearing the buzzing, tap the gas valve (gently) to find out whether the buzzing changes. If so, the valve is the culprit.

the gas coils have a problem. as the dryer heats p the coils on the gas valve are failing causing the dryer not to heat. replace the coils and you should have no problem
