Question about GE JVM1350BW/WW/AW/SY Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Flashing is occurring around the plastic turntable piece which is causing it to melt. Took off and saw that the enamel was pitted around the turntable opening. When I remove the plastic turntable piece, no flashing occurs and seems to be fine (this was all after removing the turntable motor BTW which itself seems fine. No scorching, etc.. on it at all.) Put the plastic piece back over hole, flashing/burning again occurs. Is it the pitted enamel causing the problem?

It sounds like you are talking about the turntable tray adapter in the bottom.
What usually causes arcing is the reaction of the RF (microwave) energy acting on carbon. It's great that the motor and orifice are OK. Sounds like you just need to replace the T/T adapter. If the paint is pitted or altered, you need to use a special catalytic paint for microwave cavities to touch it up. The paint's main purpose is to protect the metal from rust but it is a high temperature paint to stand up to the higher temperature of that environment.

My turntable doesn't turn

Sounds like the turntable drive coupling is broken. In the bottom of the microwave where your turntable is, underneath that is a small drive coupling that the motor shaft pushes into. if the motor doesn't turn or the coupling, which commonly has a D shape shaft to keep it from slipping, is broken, the tray will not turn. One quick test it to remove your tray and see if you can turn the coupling easily by hand, if you can you probably have a broken drive coupling. The turntable motor is very difficult to turn by its shaft. so if it turns easily it is probably a broke coupling. NEVER force your turntable around by hand or you can break that coupling.

Melted plastic turntable teeth

If only the teeth, get a new replacement ring . If it has melted so bad that it is part of the m/wave floor, you don't have much choice. Have you tried speaking to manufacturer?

It burns thru the glass trray and melts the wheeled tray holder...

There are two possible reasons for this to occur.
1.there was dirt on the turntable and that carbonized and got so hot that it melted the tray. That heat would've melted the plastic spider as well.
2.the microwave oven was turned on with nothing. or almost nothing, in it: the glass turntable is what is known as "a matching load". That means it is there as a safety precaution, protecting the magnetron, in case there's nothing in the microwave oven when it is energized. As such, the glass turntable can get hot enough to melt. That, in turn, will melt the plastic spider.
If either of those is the case, it is OK to buy a new spider & turntable.

Maytag Over The Range Microwave: Melted glass turntable, rollers

Considering the melting pooint of glass ...

Normally, microwave travels around round surfaces (Look at the B-1 for example) If you put flat metal in a microwave, you will create sparks ... lots of em. Is it possible you have something going on with one of the wheels ... like a piece of tin foil?

At a minimum, I think id be inspecting everything inside very carefully and then give it a good cleaning.

You might want a pro in your area tale a look at this as well.
